What is the difference?
I have ask this question before but forgot the answer, maybe i can write it down

35 whelen is based off of a 30-06 case and is alot hotter than the 35 remington which compares to a 30-30.

Here's a visual comparison, the 35 Rem is ballistically a 357Max on roids, when loaded to Super 35 Rem pressures for use in a stronger action than the old leverguns, it's got some nice teeth, but it's still no Whelen, it just doesn't have the case capacity.  ;)

.35 Remington makes a nice pistol cartridge.  Accurate and recoil is manageable.  .35Whelen is a true rifle cartridge.

.35 Rem range around 150 yards, .35 Whelen range 250 yards easy.

The 35 remington was designed to be used in the model 14/141 & 8/81 Remington rifles, both of which are not real strong actions.

35WH was a wildcat for years, till it was bonofied many years later.

In my opinion the 338/06 is a much better choice than the 35W.

And you can't make a 338-06 from a 357 barrel.   :D

What I was told by an oldtimer, was that magnum actions used to be rare and cost a month's pay! 30-06 actions were common and real cheap. So the Whelen was a cost effective wildcat. Of course, these days a used magnum action is probably $200, so the Whelen is more of a retro thing. The oldtimer told me this as I was perusing a 700CDL in his rack. Still might get it for myself for CHRISTmas.
