Tis the season for giving gifts, this might help with some ideas. I think Zulu will be interested in the first item shown, while I feel partial to the 14th (An excellent 19th century bronze cannon. Item A340). I'm not sure when I first saw this site, its got to be around three years ago, but a lot of the cannons that were on display then, are still being shown.

Dan,

The cannon that you mention has one dolphin that's leaning towards the center of the tube, and I've wondered why ever since first seeing it. Do you think this was caused by some type of accident when the gun was being cast, or is it a bad repair that was made because the handle was broken off the barrel?

I have no idea at all
the photos are of such low quality that it isnt possible to enlarge them enough to see why its angled
I also get a feeling that the photos are copied from an printed book when Im looking at them
then he claim that its a 16th or 17th century cannon

if he said mid 18th century I maybe could agree, but not without looking very carefully at it
center mounted trunnions ??
Ive never seen any period cannon with an "decorative" coat of arms
everything I have seen with an non existing coat of arms have been reproductions
so something in the back of my head say reproduction
Im absolutely not sure about that, but its just too many things that aint correct on that gun
but still its an beautiful cannon

There are some questionable descriptions here, there's no doubt about that. I'd like to know what informs them that the small so called "probably Indian" cannon dates from the 1600's. There is one thing that's not in question, these folks have a strong faith in making huge profits on their sales.

My fav was that Vasa gun with the field gun muzzle . It had a rear mounted Dolfin instead of a regular castable ...........That is my 'stretch goal'

Allen's favorite A340 is a correct British m/l salute gun, at least the tube is totally correct. This one has what they say is a 58mm bore or whatever, I've seen a few of exactly that shape tube complete with vent protector, that were a full five feet long. One just went to sale in UK, estimate for it was something like 4000 pounds. It was a tube only.

I think the special anti-rigging shot they show is a complete fantasy item; no country ever put that much fanciness into a round of ammo, makes no sense. Plus it looks far too delicate to shoot out of a cannon without coming all apart and ruining the bore.

I was a wondering about how that rigging thingage would even colapse enough to fit into the bore and then survive that blast without going off in all dirctions ??

We're s'posed to believe that because someone has stamped WR in the thing, it was made by Westley Richards, OK. I think what was meant by the WR is "Weird Repro."

Yes it does lack that element of class you would expect on a Westly Richards arm..now if it had a Triangle...any way here some more to add to you wish list or trash can.

Hey, that signal/salute gun may have been manufactured by Westley Richards, or perhaps it was owned by Will Rogers. In fact, I suppose that there could even be the remote possibility that it was both owned by Rgers, and made by Richards.
It's an interesting gun, you can see the line on the cascabel where it seperates when the firing pin is pulled back, or activated, and the opening on top of the barrel where the .32 blank is supposed to be loaded appears to be blocked with something. I wonder if the shell had to be extraced manually; and why a 30mm bore for a little .32 pop gun?
This gun kind of reminds me of cannonmn's 12 gauge top loader, but his gun is a lot more complex, and I think he said that it had an automatic extractor.

Those measurements, and the rest of the description of this gun come from the outfit that's trying to get rid of it, but I'm just fooling around; I really don't think there's any likelyhood of this salute cannon being made by Westley Richards.
