Scope for a 30-30 lever
« on: October 22, 2003, 05:40:45 PM »
I am looking to buy a scope for either a Marlin or Winchester 30-30. I prefer variable power scopes. I am leaning toward the 2x7x32 power. I bought a Nikon Monarch from the optic zone for my 7mm mag so I may look at this line again. I am looking in the price range of $150.00 to $250.00 what brand will fit the lever guns better and are not too big? I don't want a big scope on this gun.

cocojo, I've had good experience with the Weaver Grand Slam 1.5-5 as well as the Nikon Monarch 2-7.  Currently the Weaver is on a Marlin 1895M and has performed flawlessly.  A Leupold Vari-X II 2-7 is also a consideration.  Many here seem to like the Bushnell Elite 3200's, but I've no experience with them.

There are a couple that I would look into, depending on much you want to spend:

Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7x32
Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6x36
Nikon Monarch 2-7x32
Weaver Grand Slam 1.5-5x32

They are all great scopes, but I like the Nikon and Weaver's the best.

How about a Nikon Monarch 1.5x4.5 with the plex recticle? It is small and wouldn't look too big and has a shorter parallax setting.

The Optic Zone, my Nikon Monarch doesn't seem as clear as my sons Bushnell, he has a 1.5 x 4 shotgun scope on his 30-30. I want a very bright clear scope. I havn't tried the weavers are they as clear as the Bushnells? What seems to be the brightest scope of the ones you suggested?

To me the brightess scope is the Weaver Grand Slam.  The thing is that one scope may look brighter to me but not to another person.  So take that in mind.  One thing you have to consider when comparing scopes to compare them at the same power with the same size objective.
