model 7 and model 700 differences?

whats the difference between these two firearms? thanks in advance- nevermind, i found it on the remington sub-forum, basically the same- just a little shorter and slightly lighter?

still an excellent question, I never have figured it out.  Is the stock smaller and shorter?

Shorter barrel on model 7, and model 7's only avail in short action chamberings.

The action on the model 7 is a little shorter than the short action in the 700.

The recoil lug/washer on the Model Seven I had protruded above the plane of the front receiver ring, unlike that of M700's, which is flush.

None of the many Model Sevens I own and have owned have done that. Why yours did I don't know but it is not common I assure you.

   The 700 action has 2 holes in the rear for scope mounts, and the 7 has only one hole

You have the model 700 long and short action and the model 7 which is shorter than the model 700 short action by .110".  They do share some of whats called common parts with the Rem 700 in the same calibers.

Have 2 #7's lite rifle kicks like a mule. In 7SAUM, and 300SAUM. Have a 270WSM barrel that I am putting on the 300. These calibers may be hard to find ammo for every where, I reload for them, so not a problem for me. The action was designed especially for these calibers, while close to the 700 actions it is just a little shorter. The stock is walnut but the recoil pads leave alot to be desired, couldn't understand why remington put such a thin recoil pad on a hard kicker. A new recoil pad will be installed in the future. lou

A model 7 is an updated mod 600 that was used for the Mohawk  isn't it ? Same reciever as a XP-100 .

I have never been shy of recoil. But the lighter the rifle the more it will kick. The two model 7's I have one is 7SAUM and the other is 300SAUM which are the answer to Winchesters short magnums. I had a Remington that used one of the two holes in the back for a one piece base. And it was a 7mm mag. I guess remington figured they dont need for 2 holes in the rear when using a one piece base? My model 7's are doing fine with the one hole in the rear base. Lou

I have never shot a model 7 in a SUAM or WSM caliber, but I can see why it would kick.  The 7-08 and 308 that I have are not bad at all.  The problem is not with the model 7, but the cartridge.  Any light weight rifle in a heavyweight caliber will likely do the same.  A while back there was a post on GB about a 5.5lb rifle in 458 Win.  Ouch!

my rifle is chambered in 7mm saum, i put a slip on limbsaver pad over the original and it is very pleasant to shoot. i honestly don't feel any more recoil out of it than my 308. i have put around 200 rounds through my rifle and i am loving it. i have mounted the centerpoint scope and it is a great combination. i chronied my reloads out of it and a 5 shot average is right at 2840 fps. i am on the slower end of the burnchart. this has been a really good combination, and if i could do my part, would probably shoot cloverleafs. i have printed a chart off for the mil-dot reticle and using the bottom dot as a reference point, will put me out there to around 650 yards. i will start proving the points of holdover sometime this week.
