I do not have one.  I worry that its days are limited.  Seems the SAUM and the WSM are not as popular as they once were, with the WSM seeming to come out on top.

I'm no expert, just an observation.

The SAUM's get a bad rap since Winchester 300 WSM beat Remington to the plate . And the 300 WSM gets more powder than the 300 SAUM.
The 7MM SAUM is really an improved 280 Improved in performance according to the Mags  , but never caught on as winchester at that time was going so well with the WSM line .
I would buy a rifle so chambered if you reloaded . Brass can still be bought as well as Ammo . Worse comes to worse , you can always have it rechambered to the WSM line , but for our life time I assume there will always be at least brass for this fine round.
It might not be something you could buy Ammo for at the corner store , but reloading still at a good price . Then too years ahead it might also be a good investment , as the case with other chamberings of the past .
It seems if the 356 and 375 Winchester , no longer made are the one's every one now wants and willing to pay double the price .

I have one. Mine is a 700 bdl ss. It shoots really well with a variety of different bullets. The best shooters so far are the 175 gr. sierra gameking and the 150 gr. core lokt. Also, I get higher velocities with it than my buddies 7mm remington mag. Not that it matters, it just worked out that way.

We're not confusing the Ultra Mag and the SAUM are we?  I was thinking the REM SAUM was made shorter than the WSM cases so that they could be chambered in the Model Seven.

I don't think the Model Seven receiver will accept a WSM.  If your rifle is a Model Seven, then it probably could not be rechambered to a longer case.  I may be all wet on this.  If you have a SAUM in a short action BDL, I think it could be rechambered to a 7mmWSM.

Somebody correct me.

I think you got it right charles p.  The model 7 receiver is to short to chamber the WSM's.  If I came across one with dies at a good price, I might get it.  I have 3-280's so not much improvement on performance on the game.  DP

I stand corrected.  Remington does offer the Model Seven in WSM.  Thank you for correcting me.

I didn't dream up my assumption that the WSM was too long for the Model Seven - I have read it somewhere - and I assume the SAUMs were designed by Remington to fit the shorter Model Sevens.

Now I have seen that Rem has chambered the slightly longer WSM cartridges in their Model Seven and all but abandoned the SAUMs.  Has there been any changes to the Model Seven?  Was Remington just too late to the party with their SAUM cartridges, or was there a reason for their shorter dimensions?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Winchester did bring out the WSM before Remington came with the SAUM .I briefly had the 300 SAUM which I thought was a  nice shooting round . I probably would still have it , except I had issues with the rifle( Savage bolt) that could not be resolved . Should have then gone to the Rem BDL stainless but they were sold out in that calipier at the time .
The 7MM would be of interst in thefull sized model and am waiting for a used to show up since the new rifles are gone.

Well just saw a SS rem model seven 7SAUM listed for sale just under 4 hundredCanadain . It seems it was quick on and off the rack sold before I could respond .
That was the first used rifle listed and I saw this as a deal.

Now that they are gone from the remington  new rifle line I am sure they would make a good investment and too I wonder why the improved 280AI never really caught on

The SAUM has a shorter case, but the same oal. This allows more of the bullet protruding from the case. The 7 SAUM basically duplicates the other 2 7 mags. I bought one because the gun, a laminate Model 7 was on close out and my local FFL got one for me cost plus $20 for under $400. Remington was dumping them, so yes I bought a Edsel of a gun, but since I have 240 pieces of brass and a life time supply of 7mm hunting bullets, I will be fine. I read an article on another site that noted th 7 SAUM is becoming popular with the long range FTR class guys because they are getting the same velocity as the WSM with less powder.
