H&R CR1871 BC 45-70
« on: December 10, 2009, 10:39:03 AM »
Hi, Does anyone know the best source with the best price on the above mentioned firearm? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, the retailers can be online or in store.....I live in northern Wisconsin. Also, is there a possibility of this firearm going on sale soon anywhere? I like to call myself frugal instead of cheap and truely my thriftiness is quite a necessity in my semi-retirement! I've been doing some research on this gun and I feel it will be a good buy and suit me just fine.....although I will probably perform a trigger job on it and install a recoil pad. I'm hoping the factory sights will suffice. Any comments on this firearm would be welcome and very appreciated. Thank you. P.S. I did intro myself in the introduction section.

That's exactly what I paid for mine at Walmart about a year and a half ago.  It was a non-stock item and they had to order it.

Thanks Tim. It's been awhile since I've been in our Wal-Mart, but if I think about it I think it stopped selling firearms and only sells black powder guns. I can call them and ask just to be sure. I would buy a gun from them if their price was a lot better.....otherwise I really don't like Wally World for more than one reason but now especially if they stopped selling firearms. What society has become really upsets me.....this world seems to be going to hell in a handbasket pretty fast, but that's another topic I won't go into here.

I just paid $309 (with FFL) from Williams Shooters Supply. You have to call daily to check stock. I darn near bought (2) when they came available a month ago. The BC and the 38-55 are rapidly becoming two of my favorite rifles. I may end up making another Target Rifle in 32-40 to round out the clutch. I would probably sleeve a 38-55 bbl.

Thanks rex6666 and shoetzenboomer for the info. I may not have the funds until after Christmas unless I find a really good timely sale!

That brings up a question.  Who knows when they started making the BC 45-70?

Best guess is early '90s, those W&H rifles had different serial number prefixes, the only source of build year info by serial number was Gardner, that info was lost when they closed. Consequently Ilion won't fit accessory barrels to those older frames since they don't know when they were made. :-\ The old H&R Inc that went out of business in 1986 never made them.

Check your state to see if you have an Acadamy Sports store. I bought my 45-70 Handi there. They are in several states. You might do a google search to see if there is one near you.
