RESTORE QUESTIONS,

 I have a Win. shotgun I need to restore, it's a model 1200 made in the late 70s early 80s, ther is some suface rust (no pitting) on the barrel,  as far as rebluing it, how close to factory can it get??? 
 
  Also thers a piece of metal inside the reciever thats about 2 maybe 3 inches long, its toward the bottom of the right hand side ( if the gun is shouldered), this piece has a lip that catches the edge of the brass of a shot shell that is in the tube magazine and keeps the shell from exiting the tube until you pull the forearm back,( sorry,no idea what it's called)  this piece needs to be replaced, I've had the gun apart and if I remember rite that piece is bradded into the reciever, can anyone tell me if it can be replaced.

 I would love to get this gun refubed as close to factory as I can, it has a great deal of sentamental value.

Not sure what you're talking about. The link will take you to a diagram of a parts blow up of the 1200. This is a pretty good shotgun. It's not as smooth as some but they seem pretty well made, except for the feed throats the design seems to work pretty good. Parts are available from Numeric(GunPartsCorp). How did you determine the part in question needs replacing.

  I noticed that when you pull the fore arm back to cycle the gun either all the shells would exit the tube all at once or ther wouldnt be a exit the tube at all,  then I started to finger around with the internal parts until I figured it out.
  I've had thoughts of calling Winchester and see if they would fix the gun ( for patment of course ) but realy dont think they will, but it's worth a shot. ( no pun intended )

Think  the item you are talking about is what's called the shell stop. And its probably rivited in place. I'm thinking that this could be replaced and as far as refinishing get it lightly bead blasted before blueing and it should look really nice. Frank

Below is a link to winchester's site at custom service. My last contacts with them were less than great but they have gone out of business since then and been re-org'd?? So who knows.. I'll look in my manuals and see what you are talking about.. Just don't remember..

use some flitz on it and you might not need to reblue . The reciver is alum. on many 1200's and is not blued . You might get a coating product from Brownell's for that if yours is alum. The part in question might need adjusting or maybe the spring is weak . The parts in the 1200 and 1400 auto were the same in a few  cases as this was the design goal. Also the 140 and 1500 autos and some 1300's might have a few like parts. Good luck with your rebuild . I still shoot a 1400 some i got in the late 60's . Been rebuilt twice now .
 As a side i saw a steel reciver 1400 last dove season . It was a range gun .

 Much thanx for the input ya'll,   Your probably (shootall) rite about about the spring being weak, I've tried moving it around sevral times and it's either to much and wont let the shells out from the tube, or not enuff and shells wont stay in the tube. ( is flitz a polish or what???)
 
Frank46, to me it looks to be bradded in place but it mite be a rivet instead, it's been a while since I took a close look.

Fixin to try the link in a few minutes Gunnut, thanx agian, will let you know if ther still in operation.

Flitz is a paste type cleaner/metal polish that removes rust etc with out hurting blue . If your gun is not in really bad shape it might do the trick.

  Shootall, Thanx for the tip, think I'll try it just to see what it'll do, cant hurt. ( from brownells I guess? )
 
   Called Winchester today and the guy in customer service said they hadnt offered service on a 1200 in about 25 years, and to try a gun smith.

Lowes has it as do most hardware stores and hobby shops . In a pinch tooth paste and baking soda on bright parts (no blue)
