20 ga slugs in an Encore
« on: October 23, 2003, 02:07:50 PM »
I have been working with a fully rifled Encore 20 ga. slug gun. I have had good luck with the Remington all copper slug and especially with the 3" Federal. The gun will shoot into 1" at 100 yards with the Federal and I had a couple of one hole groups. It does not like the Winchester, the load I was wanting to use. I get fliers as if it is too fast and stripping in the rifling. I bought some 20 ga, sabots but have not loaded them yet, I need cardbord wads and a roll crimper. Has anyone loaded any of these? I still do not have a good load for the Lyman cast slug, as I was advised, but will keep trying. Any input on factory slugs and reloads would be greatly appreciated, Shotgunner

I am having great luck with Federal Expanders 3" 3/4 barnes sabot out of my Encore. Shoots easy 2" groups at 100 yds. Shot 6 pt last year about 70 yds perfect shot behind shoulder and didn't go anywhere. You might try  www.ballisticproducts.com for reloading components for the 20. I just got some info from them on danfgerous game slugs for the 20 which real interesting.
