Contender prototype

The Remington rolling block Magnum. Came in many calibers, including a .50rimfire. The pistol pictured is an 1871 model 44-40. No interchangeable barrels and the action is kinda weak. Very stylish tho, seen in movies.

See that thingie on the side of the rolling block action, it is a pin retainer. Seem familiar? T/C does it with wood. The biggest drawback of the RB is that it is not very safe to carry.

     I agree, not a prototype for the Contender, but if you've ever seen an old H & R Handy Gun, the resembance is striking.  When I first saw the picture that's what I thought it was.  Walt

I have never seen an H&R Handy Gun. I'll check it out. It may be so handy that I will have to have one.

     The H & R Handy Gun was a .410 or 28 ga smoothbore pistol(with a very few rifled exceptions) and therefore ruled illegal long ago.

Any pistol that will chamber a shotgun shell [rifled or not] is illegal here in the Golden State. I would love to have that 410 5 shot revolver. I do have a neat little H&R shotgun. Its a quality unit and dirt cheap.
