What is your opinion of the Blaser R93 rifle. I do not plan on hunting dangerous game with it.  Experiences? THANKS

Question for PH's

I'm not sure how many other African PH's will visit this forum so I'll post a thought. I have not had enough hunters with this rifle to give a fair judgement. The few I have seen had no trouble and the rifles worked fine.  A friend of mine, has a friend that has nothning but trouble with his. That could be from a million different things which may not have anything to do with the rifle. I hesitate to even write this as it's not my opinion but rather the opinion of a trusted friend.

I would not own one because I want a CRF bolt action which is a proven relaibale gun for a long time. I'm not interested in using these unusual or unique guns when I'm on the trip of a lifetime.

Tons of people use the Blaser and love it.

Others call the blaser a plastic toy, and there is something to that side of the argument.

If you use overweight bullets, it will through the inertial cocking thingie in the Blaser out of kilter.

Personally I want a mauser.

I shoot the 350gr and 400gr RNs in my .416 Rem R93 Luxus Safari rifle, in the California 95 degree-F sun. Yes, I shoot it rapid fire (quick follow-up shots). Look at the wood and the silver receiver with animal engravings - it's one of the more expensive rifles out there (doubles not considered). One thing for sure - it's NOT conventional; dirt/grit could get under the bolt in extreme situations.

BTW, the .416 is a bit lighter than the .375H&H; I guess it's because the bore is bigger (less metal).
