Dan,
While you may be right in guessing that meister model maker Bruno Platzer wouldn't be all that interested in a pre 1899 build, I'll bet that one of the German, WW I, or WW II great railway guns would get his creative juices flowing. It boggles my mind, trying to come up with the price that would be asked for a working 1.5'' scale model of one of Krupp's Word War Two "Dora/Schwerer Gustav" guns.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

he he he , thats one cannon I would love to see
even as a scale model that one would be hughe, it had 80 cm caliber (31,5")
total length 43 meter

if you check this link you can see lots of photos of a model and the original
 forum.modelismo-na.net/printview.php?t=5747...

scroll down and you will find lots of detail pictures of both the original and the model they are building
takes some time if you will look at all pictures , but its worth it .

here you can compare the shell with a russian T-34 tank   ;D  its hughe
