You are all making me thirsty.  I don't know where to get any in Mims but would be glad to make someone's aquaintance.  I am keenly interested in the recipes and methodology being described.  It would be fun to try to make some of my own.

No. We have bayou-like conditions in the lower State where fast boat drug runners from off shore dodge the ever vigilant US Coast Guard.  But the CG is much better and smarter today than in Florida's drug inhibited past.  There are History Channel documentaries of the crime and corruption that existed here in the 60's and early 70's.  So much money passed through the Florida banks that the Nation's "money laundering" codes were rewritten to stem that tide.  Murder for hire, drug hits, death by overdose, bales of weed floating ashore, cocaine swallowed condoms, even Civil War "Monitor/Merimack" style low-profile submarines are part of the history.  There is far too much money to foreign countries from illegal drugs to Florida that the few, if any, remaining South Florida stills are probably not feasible, except for home brew.  Now I could be wrong.  I am not savey about "White Lightning".  That goes double for the coke, weed, and other illegal substances.

They are better up the coast also , seems if you run up the Chesapeake Bay at night its a good chance you will get checked . That was another entry point for drugs as once in the bay you could go up 30 or more rivers , some a 100 miles inland . Its one of the reasons Richmond became a drug/murder center in the 70's . But there are stills in the area . I hear now days they are under barns and such and use gas to cook with . Hear tell some produce several thousand gals a run .
And for those that may not know there are some who use no sugar in making it . There are certian typs of corn used though not the hybrid ones . Its a longer process also but then you don't get noticed buying sugar . Remember to find a honey hole ya watch the flower and follow the bee home , same works with the grocery store and the sugar shelf  :-X
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Shootall, very true. I remember Old Doc "B" using white corn in his batches with out the sugar. The mash had a sour taste to it before it went into the still, but was a smooth drink. The mash was a milky color and the alcohol had a blue tint to it.

You can fement almost anything and get drunk.
Those boys in prison do it every day.
Many still make home brewed wine on a regular basis---and beer making is a hot hobby now.

Dad used to put an old shoe off to the side of the coal in the kitchen stove, so the neighbors would smell that and not the whiskey he was cookin, that was an old trick up north here, heck when the neighbors smelled burning shoes they knew what was going on................steg

I grew up in Mc Nairy county Tn and saw all kinds of stills and helped tear up several and some were clean and most were not .  there was one large still that would have made jack daniels jealous .  You know things were better then before the mess we have now.
