What happened when I switched barrels.......

  I will pass this on just for general information.....I am kinda surprised at what happened...I have 2 22-250 AI's. I had the quick twist barrel put on a new action , and a better grade stock put on my old 1-14 twist rifle. NOW, the screw up, the gunsmith took the 1-14 twist barrel off of the action and replaced it with a std. .22-250 Rem. take off barrel...That was the screw up...Anyway, I told him there was a mistake... He corrected it by replacing the 1-14 back into the old action and bedding the old barreled action into the better ADL stock. Nice work...Anyway today I  picked it up, and decided to sight it in...I had a Burris 3-9 on it when I took it to the shop. I decided to try one shot at the 100 yard range on a Redfield sightin target. I figured I would have to move to 25 , but what the heck...I squeezed one off  ...... The serria hit about 2 inches to the right of my point of aim and 1 inch high.  To double check I shot another, this one hit about an inch high over the point of aim.... That is my normal sightin point with this rifle, honestly I couldn't belive it... Fired acouple more the rifle settled in with a fine group. Switched to 50 grain instead of 55's another fine group, just a bit right of the 55's..What this rifle usually does.. Honestly I couldn't believe what I saw. The barrel was off then back on, put in another stock, and [point of impact really did not change....Wish Wyo. had a state lottery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I replaced a 270 barrel on one of my Mauser actioned rifles with a 35 Whelen barrel. The Leupold was taken off the rifle in it's weaver mounts to have the work done and replaced afterwards. The 270 was sighted in 3 inches high at 100 yards and the 35 Whelen hit 1 inch high at the same distance with a moderate handload and I never touched the adjustment knobs! I don't think that would have happened if I had just removed the scope and put it back on.

Well, I had just about the same thing happen this fall with my 270-7Wby conversion. Had the smith take off the 270 barrel, Rem 700, and screw on the mag barrel. All he had to do was open the bolt face, and check headspace.
I placed the now new barreled action back into the wood stock, had to open the barrel channel for the larger mag conture, both barrels are free floating, placed the scope back on the Weaver bases, bore sighted, didn`t see anything to move, and shot. The first round printed 1 inch left and 2 low from the original 270 zerro.. I was very surprised..but happy.
