Ruger number 1 question
« on: December 14, 2009, 04:06:36 PM »
I had a question on a 7x57 and as some know I bought a number one in 30-06 from my son that we had picked up at one of the gun shows that was in a collection very nice great wood like new.
As I was mounting the scope on it I saw some very small writing stamped on the barrell about where the barrel rests in forend that says  Made in the 200yr of American Liberty so does this indicate mfg date of 1976 and is this some type of a commerative model ? The gun looks just like all the number ones that I have looked at otherwise just never noticed any thing like this before.

What you have is what's known as a "Liberty" model. This name is used across the board for Ruger models made in that year. And yes, your's was made in 1976. Congratulations on a nice #1. They bring a higher price than the common ones but mainly with the box and papers inside.
