Author Topic: Which 260 grain loads for .454 Casull? (Read 661 times)

I own 2 Taurus RBs in .454 Casull. One is a 6.5" without scope, and the other is an 8" with Burris 2x-7x.

Winchester used to make Jacketed Flat Points in 260 grain and 300 grain. In fact, I still own a couple boxed of the 260s. However, apparently Winchester doesn't make the JFPs in the 260 anymore, but they still do in the Nosler Partition.

Have any of you used both the 260 JFP and 260 Nosler Partition? Which performed better in your guns? Would you believe that the Partition would be a better choice for hogs?

I have used the partitions on hogs and deer with flawless results. one boar was 275lbs and the 260 partitions went through 2-3 inches of grissle plate and a rib on exit. Did not recover the bullet due to full penetration and I got a great wound channel. That is the round that I hunt with in my 6in RB (scoped). Sika deer, whitetail, hogs, and nutria. I like them.

the last I checked, I shot a 5 shot group out of the same cylinder at 40 yards and was getting JUST over one inch groups. Granted I had it scoped and had a super solid bag rest, but the gun did it with that ammo. I haven't even tried another ammo in my RB cause that is all the accuracy that I need.

Actually I believe those bullets were made by Freedom Arms not Winchester. As far as I know Bob Baker and Company at FA still do make and sell them. He donated a bunch of both to me for using in testing the FA83 he sent to me to test as well as the Taurus RB .454 I was testing at the same time. Mighty fine bullets. As accurate as any I've run thru the .454 Casulls and hard enough to not damage the forcing cone at max pressures as many bullets can do.

You said JFP and not JHP... nevermind. The winchester 260 JHP nosler partitions are still good rounds. I didn't read careully enough.
