SARA (Spanish Artillery Research Associates), a Yahoo group, now has about 20 members and counting. The site has now logged over 100 messages, uploaded 18 files, and is planning field trips. We've already accomplished a few things, such as providing a positive identification of the type of field cannon used at some of the California presidios. Our current "hot topic" of discussion is 18th C. Spanish Cannon foundries in Mexico-where were they? We continue to welcome new members. If you have an interest in this area, please sign up, membership is still free of charge. Visit our homepage at:

It's a good site, I have been a member for some time though with all that has been going on
I have had little time to contribute, There is possibly one Spanish gun down in my area when I have
a little time I will get over there and confirm this and get as much info as possible.

Thanks Allen, I have a rough "master list" of Spanish cannons people have reported, with marks, type etc. If you felt like giving me a little more on location I could check to see if it is listed yet.

It's at a museum in Portsmouth, I saw it in passing at about 30 miles an hour....
It is an 18th C. bronze gun, I may be wrong it could be French I'll know more when I can stop by.
It is at The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard museum

The gun on my list that seems to match is listed as a Spanish bronze 18 pdr. gun named VITZILIPULTI, has cipher of Carlos IV on breech, Bronzes Refundidos on left trunnion, basering reads: "No. 5510 SEVILLA.18.DE.ABRIL.DE.1801"
Next time you go by you might want to check it, since I'm pretty sure the Spanish gun I saw there long ago had a Carlos III cipher.
