My point was that Dan wesson thought that the people buying their guns would not take time to alighn the barrel holes with the shroud.  This lack off faith caused a problem that need not have been if the manufacurer didn't think we were stupid.  Thanks Waldo Pepper for showing witch one of us didn't know what they were talking about. 8)  I also bought the standard barrel for lead loads, but I used it more than the ported barrel do to handloading. ;D

I think the idea for the pin was for perfect alignment and for stupid people, maybe it was for ease of the owner to properly aligen helping to make sure of consistent shooting.

Not sure if you are saying I was calling you stupid or not, but I wasn't. It's like a neighbor friend that has liked my diesel cars for years, but never would buy one. Then when he decides to buy one instead of asking advice he just goes and buys a used one and gets taken to the cleaners, will not take any advice on upkeep and such from someone that knows the car and diesel instead goes to local ripoff shops for advice and help. It's not stupidity, he's very intelligent, but for some reason always thinks he knows more the everyone else. You, I assumed, were just unaware of how the barrel was ported or even felt the mfg was slighting you by putting you with so many that should never touch anything requiring some ability to take things apart and put back togather.

Hope I haven't rambled too much and made the water muddier, it's not my intent.

That's because like you I'm ex-military, (retired Air Force), and you know what that does to our vocabulary. 8)

I have two degree's and if I had to go to college again today and type out those papers again instead of using this lap-top I wouldn't get past first year. Now I'm 65 raising grandsons age 2 & 5 full time, lucky wife is only 57 and little more spry then me. Crap half the time I try to type something here I have a kid climbing in my lap and crushing left jewel in process or I get peed on, or the oldest hits the youngest and the little can hit such high & loud notes I can not here the rest of the day. Speaking of youngest he's crying, later I home alone with him.

Speaking of hog guns, love little Sweet P with her 16.25" barrel in the woods and brush or at home as HD with her 10 rounds of 44 magnum.

My vote would have to go to the S&W m27 4" 357 magnum.

I had a DW , really a clunky gun .
I had a DW 15-2 Pistol Pack.
About the same size as an L frame Smith.
Nice gun, cool options to be able to select the barrel from 2 to 8" depending.
Was a nice gun but with warm loads I had problems getting the cylinder open to reload.
Not a problem when hunting, but at a bowling pin shoot it was a detraction.

The small frame M-15 & M-715 are N frame sized guns in 357 caliberr or smaller, I have 3 N frame S&W's, 4 Dan Wessons 3 small frame (22LR. & 2 in 357) and one large frame 744 in 44 magnum, and Colt Trooper III in 357 magnum. Have done actual measuring on the S&W's & DW frames & cylinders, S&W N frames are a lot smaller lighter built guns then S&W guns. Wish my S&W's shot as good as my Dan Wessons or my Colt Trooper.

OK,
I had mine in an L frame holster and it took S&W #10 speed loaders from HKS.
I never stuck it in my N-Frame holster as it had a full under lug and my N frame holster does not.
But my N Frames do not fit in the L frame holsters.

The shape is the problem, not size. I was shooting two N frame S&W 610's a no dash 5" and -3 with 6.5" today and my DW 15 6" full lug barrel that I had a holster custom made for by a local guy, the 5" S&W is loose in the holster while the DW is snug. My 629 (44) the cylinder is enough bigger then 40/10mm cylinder that it will not go into the DW M-15 holster w/o forcing where my DW 744 (44mag) will not even force fit. The thing with DW is it is not quite N frame high, but it has thicker frame by several thousandths of inch and can be forced into some L frame holster's because most holsters are made with enough tollerence they fit several brands.

Sometimes the cyl would touch the bbl. Opening the cyl. was a pain also.

Yea I started to leave a little more than the shim as slop in the cylinder gap when shooting bowling pins with the full house 357 loads.
Also a few times I tried the hot CCI Aluminium cased loads and had to wait a second or two for the AL to cool so I could eject.
Really well made guns.  Super tight.

My favorite, at least right now, is the S&W 686 + Mountain Gun.
It was made in a run of only 2000.
It is being made again in the 6 shot variation.
They are being offered on Gunbroker.
Get one while you can!
Act the way you would like to be, and soon you will be the way you act.

If it has a barrel and shoots bullets I am interested in it and if I don't have one I want one.  Never met a gun I didn't like.

The Colt New Service stands the test of time very well.  I have one made the first year of manufacture and issued at some point to an Egyptian police organization (when under the Brits, I'm sure).  It has no finish but is still tight as a bank vault and shoots quite accurately.  Made in 1898!  I've owned and handled many and still have never found one that didn't lock up tight.  The only other gun I can say that about is the L.C. Smith double shotgun!

In current guns I'd say the Ruger GP-100 is simply the best.

I am a revolver guy and have carried one almost daily since 1985.  With that being said the best DA revolver is the one I have on me when it's needed right now.

I picked up my DW 15-2vh for a pretty good price, as the PO was having problems with the barrel binding when he shot it. I gauged it and found that the barrel/cylinder gap was *way* too tight, and so I eased it out a bit, to the factory specified gap.
Now, it's the sweetest shooting pistol I've ever owned. I'd carry it at work, but with that 6" vented heavy barrel, it's a bit large to ccw. Fortunately, these things are pretty easy to swap, so I'm looking at a 2.5" tube, and a different stock.

I've owned a number of DA revolvers, between S&W, Taurus, and Ruger, and while I can't remember a single one I *didn't* like, Ol' Danny has my favor right now.

P.S. While I've been known to correct grammar and spelling from time to time, I try to avoid it... but after making note of another's errors, it's helpful to ensure that your apostrophes are in their proper place... ;)
