Looking forward to a good hunt

Tomorrow starts our general rifle season here in Montana

Well I will be using my 45-90, bullet will be a 530-gr ppbullet over a load of FFg with a duplex of 10gr of Reloaders #7.

My son will be using my 35 Whelen with a 200 gr JSP factory load.  I don't have another BPCR rifle for him to use but his choice is the 35 Whelen anyway.

I hope everyones season is good for them regardless what they use.  :D

Good luck , hope you and your son are successful. Take some pictures of the deer and bullet damage if you can and post. Rifle does not start till the 10th but will be out with the muzzle loader till then and hopefully get a paper patch load I am happy with.

Did you have any luck?
Did not see the deer that I wanted but shot a small buck I rattled in....frontal shot was aiming at patch hit high , flipped him over backwards. Rifle was sighted in 4" high at 100 shot was about 40 yrds did not account for extra hieght....did not take pics was less then pretty sight.

Dang I forgot to post our results:

I decided to go for a Doe.  This area is over run with doe vs bucks ratio, so it was the last weekend of either sex whitetail.  I shot her at about 20 yards in dark timber using a 530-gr ppbullet over 90.0 gr of FFg. using iron sights.  Bullet damage from one of these is nill.  Like the old hunters of bison years ago said, "You can eat right up to the hole"  :cb2:

My son got his doe the next day from our stand using the 35 Whelen at 9 paces.  After caping the doe we discovered that the bullet did so much damage it wasn't funny.  Was using a 200-gr JSP Corelock.
