How they compare?? P97D and the P90D????????
« on: October 25, 2003, 08:04:33 AM »
Want to get a 45 but was wondering how the Ruger P90D and the P97D compare as far as quality and how does the recoil compare. At the gun shop was told i'd be better to go with a used 90 then a new 97 because the 90 doesn't have as bad a recoil as the 97 and it is made better. The price of the used 90 and new 97 are about equal $390.00 either one What do you think?

I have never shot the P90 but the P97 is a fine 45 cal handgun. The P97 does not have a harsh recoil in any sense. The P90 probably has less though do to the extra weight of frame since it's not polymer. I would recomend the P97, I can not see any difference in quality of the 2. The P97 is easy to clean/disasemble/assembly. Accuracy is good enough for a service/duty .45 cal

The 45ACP is not a heavy recoiling weapon in any platform. Handle both the 90 & 97 and go with the best fit. You'll be happy with the service you get from either one.

Oh yeah, doubt if you'll ever wear one out, but for the same money I'd go with the new 97. By the way, $390 sounds about $100 too high for a used P-90.
