Reaming my Ruger Blackhawk cylinder throats to .4525 really helped my accuracy a lot, so I thought some of you may be interested in this

I've heard about a lot of folks reaming the throats out on Ruger SA .45 colts, but I'm curious about how and why this helps accuracy?  Expecially reaming to larger than bullet diameter.

Are they somehow compensating for a misalignment of the cylinder and forcing cone or what's the deal?

Having your throats smaller than bullet diameter will cause the bullet to be swaged down as it passes through the cylinder and into the forcing cone. Now you may have a bullet that is too loose in the barrel. Especially if your using jacketed bullets. A 45colt measures .452, the throat should match with the tollerance going to the plus side. Hope this makes some sense.   KN

You can get a decimal size reamer from MSC supply for about $12.00.  The fancy pilot sleeves that come witht he $80+ kits do nothing really, you can take an empty case and cut the head off, then slide this sleeve up onto the reamer flutes and if it's still a tad loose wrap some masking tape until it is a snug fit in the chamber.  Put a few drops of oil on the reamer tip and run it through with minimal pressure, I use a cordless drill at slow RPM.  You are only cutting a couple thousandths of an inch at most.

http://www.cylindersmith.com/  did a nice job on my BH 45LC.  Price was right.  Turn around was fast and the gun is quite abit more accurate.
