Have a 7mm 08 in Remington 700 SPS. What is everyone's thoughts, on whether this is a good Deer Rifle or not?

Good as it gets.  I have a Kimber 84 and a Ruger ultra light, both in  in 7mm/08.  These days when I hunt just about any big game with a rifle, its what I use.

a 7-08 loaded with a 120 gr bt is neck and neck with a .270 130 gr in terms of speed and trajectory.
My nosler book actually shows it a tad flatter and faster.

Strange question.   The factory 7mm-08, with a 140 grain bullet, has been called the most absolutely perfect whitetail cartridge ever made.

I have 2 remington model 7's in 7mm08.  I can't tell you how many one shot instant kills these little guns have done on whitetails and hogs.  I have loaned them to my brother, dad, and best friend.  They are all hooked as well.  I like the 139 hornady or 140 sierra game king.  Mine are not very picky they shoot everything about a inch or so.  I have got some little tiny cloverleafs out of some handloads.  It really is probably my favorite of all time and I have hunted whitetails with alot of different calibers.  Have you shot it yet? Do you handload?

You already know it is, since you also have a 25-06 Remington is 700 SPS as well.

The 7mm-08 Remington is an absolute perfect deer cartridge as about the same as a 270 Winchester or 25-06 Remington.

Any cartridge based on the parent cases of 308 Winchester or 30-06 Springfield is proven more than adequate deer cartridges every year and will continue forever.

308 Winchester:
   243 Winchester
   260 Remington
   7mm-08 Remington
   338 Federal
   358 Winchester

30-06 Springfield
   6mm-06
   25-06 Remington
   270 Winchester
   280 Remington
   338-06 A-Square
   35 Whelen

Here are some others, obviously there are tons of wildcats that serve the same purpose.
   6mm Remington
   250-3000 Savage
   257 Roberts
   6.5x55 Swedish Masuer
   7x57 Mauser
   300 Savage
   30 TC
   8 mm Mauser

Well seeing how they tried to re-invent the wheel here and just copied the 7x57's performance sort of it really cannot fail to be effective after all the original 7mm Mauser cartridge has dropped about every type of game on the planet from Elephants down. Paul Mauser was a genius and his ideas built upon and copied  ;). As for myself I canot be bother with the 7-08 as I have two rifles in 7x57 one an original from about 1897 and one a modern 1980's production so have it covered thank you  ;D

Yes the 7-08 is a great deer cartridge. Then again I believe the .243 is a great one too. I also have a 30-06 and I like it well. As Richard Burton said in "Where Eagles Dare", "a hole is a hole is a hole". Put the correct type of projectile in the kill zone and you get a dead deer. Miss the kill zone or use the wrong projectile for the job and you get less than satisfactory results.

DKA,
I concur with M'rock's post. For WT deer, while I do use other cals once the first tag is filled, the 7-08 with 140 gr projectiles has become my favorite cal.

The question that would get very few responses.........Has anyone bought and used a 7-08 that wasn't happy with it?

I've been hunting with a 7-08 for about ten years now. Great round. Killed dozens of animals with it ranging from PD's to Lg pigs. Very versatile round, and great accuracy potential.

Everything from the super .22s to the 45-70 is used for deer.  In the hands of the people that use them they are all good deer guns or they would not be used.  So the real question is "Do you like shooting the 7mm-08"?  It's all a matter of personal opinion.  Personally I prefer the 30-06, It's no better or no worse, just my personal favorite.

I have used this caliber since 1983. I killed a 10 pt. last Sunday, and an 8 pt. yesterday with my 7mm/08. Both were 1 shot kills. I was using a 140 gr. Accubond.

7MM 08 Great Deer Caliber or not?

I've never shot one, but it can't be that much diff than a .308 or .270 or about five or six cartridges I can think of, which is to say... yes, it's a good deer cartridge. It's a great when if you have confidence in it, like the rifle, and kill deer with it.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

??? Was the 7mm-08 not enough gun to kill the deer?

I've heard of them with good reports. If it has 100, 150, or 200 range shot I'd take it hunting.
