Anyone shooting 110s in their 270?

Been shooting the 150grn Hornady SSTs with pretty good success, want to try the mk 130s and see how those do. 

Would also like to play with the 110s, seems like they'd be pretty good on the little stuff. 

Anyone shooting these in their .270?  What kind of acuracy are you getting?

Sorry not the 110's but I am shooting some Remington PSP 100 grainers  So far accuracy is about 1 1/2" at 70 yards using BLC-2 powder. I would seem that some rifles don't like them as I have tried them in a couple with quite different results. What did surprise me was just how tough these 100 grain bullets are  I would have expected them to come apart as some of the heavier bullets have done when hittign my steel sheet backstop but only one of them has doen so the others are all still whole if slightly flattened. Before hittign the steel sheet they have gone through about 4 feet of straw bales.

I am nearly out of these bullets now and cannot get any more it seems for a while as they are a "seasonal" run  .

I hope someone will post with some experience with the 110gr pills in the 270.  I've kicked the idea around for a varmit load.  I just haven't gotten to it.

Duckbill, that's what I had in mind as well.  I can find lots of load data on the 130 and 150s but not much on the lighter 110s or the heavier 160s, seems people really like the middleweights.

Years ago I had the good luck to buy a bunch of Sierra 110 gr. Prohunters. I pushed them to 2800 fps using IMR 3031 and used them in east Texas for an all around load. I shot a lot of coyotes and 10 or so deer with what i considered good results. I never loaded them to top velocities and at teh speed I used them at they acted like your average cup and core bullet. I got exits on broadside hits that didn't involve the shoulders on deer.

Nosler make a 100 grain and 110 grain Accubond for the 6.8mm Remington SPC, but should be good for the 270 Winchester.  I was thinking about a reduced load for my wife in 270 Winchester.

I currently use any 150 grain bullet and IMR-4831, gives me SUB MOA consistently from an unmodified Ruger M77 MKII factory trigger and factory walnut stock with Ruger rings and Leupold Vari-X II 3-9x40mm scope.

used to have remington 700 that loved 110 hornady hollow points. 5shots under an inch at 100 yards. not sure if they still make this bullet or not. ed k

  Have never shot 110's in the few .270's I have owned. Don't own one now. But a guy I knew, used Serria 110's over a max. load of IMR4350 in his .270's. He had several... He shot chucks with it an many whitetailed deer. Some of pretty good size...It was his prefered deer load at the time. Don't know now, but it never failed him in the years he used it..

Sierra 110 pushed by surplus 4831 worked fine in Remington 700 and Savage 110.   A friend used them on small coastal blacktail and wild pigs.  When he told me about the pigs I was surprised.

I called Sierra Bullets the other day to talk about the 115 and they told me to use the data for the 110.  Their first choice is IMR 4064, then reloader 19 and IMR 4350.

     Mr 1968 Remington 700,  High School graduation present,  Loves 150's shoots 130's OK but detests the 110 gr. bullets.  Just my rifle though.\
     Owned many many rifles over the years, come hunting season I always go back to this one, experiance together I guess.

Can't say I've ever shot 110's, but 90 grain hollow-points are far tougher than you might realize, good performance with 3450 fps (Sierra manual has some good loads for you) and just an absolute nightmare when they make contact with varmints at that speed.  Try it. . .you'll like it.

I worked up a load with the Hornaday HPs and IMR 4350. Velocity about 3300. It shoots 5 shots into 3/4" if I hold my mouth right. I originally worked it up to shoot prairie dogs, but then started shooting deer and antelope with it. I'm a meat hunter and I hoped it would be a little easier on the critters than 130s. I've probably killed 20 or 30 now and have about decided it can make just as nasty a mess as the 130s. I guess I'll try some heavily constructed 150s to see if they will do less damage.

110 grain bullets for the 270 are the reason i shoot a 7mm remington magnum.  Never couls get any accuracy out ofthem in a rem 700.  !20 grain ballistic tips in the big seven will do almost 3600 fps, and take groundhogs apart with boring regularity out to 300 yards.  @270 never shot good enought to hit them.

Been using Federal's barnes 110 load on mule deer and whitetail. Performs great! If the deer are hit in the vitals there is no meet damage. If they are hit in the shoulder, high in the ribs or any other meat location their will be meat damage as there would be with just about any other load.

Since my last post on this thread I decided to load the 110s down to see if that would result in a little less meat mangling. I tried Lyman's accuracy load with 3031 at just over 2900 fps and a load of 4198 also just over 2900. Neither shoots very good. I guess my next try will be with 4831 and if that won't do it then I will give up on the 110s for this use. I shouldn't have been surprised, this has been my experience with the 270 in over 50 years and three different rifles, they prefer to be loaded up to full steam. As I said before, if what you want to do is explode prairie dogs then the 110 gr Hornaday will do the job in spades, also in my rifle my hot 110 gr load shoots into the very same group as 130s. This is a common thing with 270 rifles.
