Just couldn't help myself.
« on: December 19, 2009, 11:08:29 AM »
Went out to the blind overlooking a kill pile this morning seeing if a yote would show up for breakfast.  About 2hrs into it no dog showed but the pile was covered in Crows.  Couldn't resist.  Dropped the hammer on the 7mm-08 and sent a 154gr SST right through the Black Devil's chest at 151yds.  His buddies were quite upset!!
It's all a hot mess...........

Glad you done it!

I was using a Johnny Sterwart Pitch Controlled Predator Call this morning and two of his cousins swooped down on me, like I was breakfast or something.

I wanted somehting that could reach out there while bucking the wind, anchor yotes at distance, and take big game when I start making some trips out west.  I like it alot but if I could do it all over, I might have gone with the 270.

Swift One, I just got a 243 hopefully for wind and distance. My long range plan was to have all the 08 based carts. before I go toes up. The 7-08 should be good for most anything within reason.
A buddy and his dad have always used 270's. Great cart. but he asked me to sight it in for him after he got out of the military and I personally wouldn't like to shoot it a lot and around here. I bought a new Rem 700 detach box in 7mm mag and never shot it. Have cart. and scope base but may just sell it someday.
Good shot on that crow, they seem to move or duck right as you touch the trigger. I love to shoot them but have only hit a few. Missed several.
What make rifle and scope is in the pic? I wish I was out right now, It's Beautiful. Thanks

Montanan, I've called them in and shot one with a shotgun and he flopped around on the ground and his buddies seem to attack him. Don't know if they are trying to help or hurt him. It kept them comming in enough for more shots. I keep my caller by the back door and if I hear any I turn it on with shotgun in hand. It's a BLAST!    Have Fun

That 243 will do the trick on long range preds for sure.  Had a bud once that hunted the yotes with a 243.  It really anchors them.  He hit one at 300yds even and it dropped like a sack of potatoes.  My 7mm-08 is a Stevens rifle with a basix trigger installed. The scope is  Millet TRS 4-16 x 50 Mildot.  It sitting on the DNZ one piece mount. Don't get me wrong, I love the rifle and the caliber.  I'm looking forward to heading out to Wyoming in 2011 for an antelope hunt.  And yes, when you wing a Crow and its on the ground crying it's ass off, his buds are going to circle and carry on like there is no tomorrow.  The dying crow sound is the best sound I have for attracting Black Devils quickly to your kill zone.  I have sniped many Crow.  But they do seem to do the "matrix dance" and duck when you shoot at them.  I have missed ALOT MORE!!!! :D
