The groove was designed for a shooting stick with a 1/2 moon top to fit the groove. The stick was mostly used in a sitting position.
Although I use cross stick held together with rubber bands which makes the hight adjustable with all my #1's. I am not using the grooves on the Alexander Henry fore arms, bu do like the looks of the trim AH fore arm.
