I finally was able to get to the range Sat. for some load testing in my new-to-me T/C Encore 7-08 barrel. I loaded 145 grain Speer BTSP bullets over H4895 in charge wts from 38.5 to 41.5 grains in .5 grain increments, with 5 rounds per charge weight. One set of five gave the best group, but it was 1.5" at 100 yds. and I didn't pay any attention to which load it was because if I can't get sub 1" it is a flush in my thinking. Most of these loads produced groups anywhere from 3" to 6+". I am going to try some IMR4350 and see what that does for it. If that doesn't produce the accuracy I am looking for I will either have to try a different bullet, maybe Hornady 139 grain, or order some IMR4064 and try that. Any insight into this cartridge would be appreciated. Thanks, Dennis
BTW, I loaded up some 139 Hornady bullets w/ 41.5 grains of IMR 4064 for my daughter's Rem model 7 in 7-08 using my S-I-L's equipment and they shot into a cloverleaf. That was a while back and I don't really want to have to stock more powder if I don't have to, oh well.
