Contender 45-70 load LIMITS??
« on: December 21, 2009, 01:49:20 AM »
I have a new 12" 45-70 Hunter bbl I was wondering, how much pressure with the Contender take?  I know that I will not go past trapdoor loads because of KICK, but wondering, will it take the max loads or not.  Does anyone know what TC reccomends?  Has anyone shot real heavy loads?  Thanks,  Wallacem in Ga

Stick in the Springfield Trapdoor loads. The contender is not made to handle the heavy Marlin loads. Some reloading manuals list loads for the contender, and they are usually in the trapdoor range.

The trapdoor loads will kill just about anything in the lower 48

You will stretch a Contender frame with too-heavy .45-70 loads.  I don't know about the G2 but don't hotrod it either.  Besides pressure, the recoil will hammer all the internal parts, so don't.

The big question is, what is Trapdoor pressure
