Hey ya'll, I bought a good used 7600 in 30-06 caliber at a pawn shop 2 weeks ago, shoots well but jams when I fill the clip/magazine with 2 or more cartridges. Do you think I need to replace the magazine? If I put a shell in the barrel and one in the clip it functions okay, but if I have more than one in the clip it will always try to push both rounds at once when I try to pump another round. Killed a nice 8 point with it yesterday evening but was hunting with it as a single shot rifle since I'm having problems.

Cheapest option would be to buy a new clip.

Try another magazine. I like the all steel ones. You can boil them every now and then to clean them out.

The problem is almost certainly the detachable magazine. Bent feed lips can cause what the OP describes. Factory issue only or you're asking for trouble....unless you want to keep using it as a single shot.

I also don't believe I would be boiling my magazines either. That is a prelude to failure on the springs. Each time is a little heat treatment. EEEEK!

disassemble the rifle and polish the chamber.
Take an empty case that was fired in it
,pop out the primer and run a sheet metal
screw into the flash hole. Coat the case with
Flitz metal polish, insert it in the chamber and
spin it with a hand power drill for 8 to 10 seconds.
Clean and oil everything while you have it apart, reassemble
and test. Bet the rifle functions after this.

I would think it is more the magazine than the chamber. Though a nice polished chamber isn't going to hurt. He said it would try to load multiple rounds out of the mag if it were fully loaded. Possibly the lips are bent to allow the rounds to sit too high thereby letting the bolt grab more than one shell at a time.

That is a distinct possibility, or the the hole for the magazine catch is bent or worn.

Sure will, ask knife makers. After you have tempered the steel you put it in another oven for an hour at 200 or less to finish up.
Why not just clean the magazine with carburator cleaner and get it cleaner without heat? Spray it on and in the magazine to get the crud out.

Tryed a magazine from another rifle that belonged to a friend and fellow hunter, his mag worked fine with my rifle. Have been looking for another mag for my rifle but have had no luck yet. Anybody know where I can order one off of the internet without having to pay alot for shipping?

Give Remington a call. They might give you one, and if you can, order at least one EXTRA.

I bought it at a pawn shop as a used gun, kind of doubt that Remington would replace the magazine. Really like this gun, shot it twice now at deer and put both deer down, killed 8 point last weekend with it at 165 yards, and took a doe this evening at 45 yards. Of my 12 scoped hunting rifles this 7600 is beginning to be one of my all time favorites. Bought it to primarily hunt clear cuts with when the rut kicks in, all other rifles are bolt actions and needed a quick second shot last season at a buck chasing a doe, was only able to shoot once with the bolt action that I had that morning before buck disappeared. Won't be a problem this January with the 7600 now if I can find another magazine.

If you don't tell Remington anything other than the magazine went bad you might be surprised. All it'll cost you is a phone call to their service center.

Hey, Pretty neat tip !!! Never tried that. I had a friend that always had problems with his model 742 Rem jamming. I had one too and never had a problem but kept the chamber super clean. When I asked him if he was using the chamber brush on a regular basis, He had no idea what I was talking about. Anyway, Through cleaning took care of his jam problem. Thanks for sharing that tip.

Try this! That spray will remove al kinds of gunk that would would never be able to get to yourself. Just make sure you run some oil on everything afterwards.

I had the same problem with my 760. It was the feedlips in my case being out of whack. I bought a new factory mag that fed perfectly . I compared the new factory mag to the one that came with the rifle. I then carefully bent the first magazines lips to match the contour of the new factory mag. Everything feeds fine now.

An over size bronze bore brush in a drill with solvent will do a far better job, with no chance of chamber or bore damage, and no brass transfer in the chamber due to friction. You can also use a smaller bore brush in a drill wrapped in fine steel wool soaked in solvent. Caution! It WON'T take 10 seconds, and don't push the steel wool up into the bore in this operation, and it should not be used on high speed. But neither should the over size bronze brush.
I have used both these methods MANY TIMES in cleaning out a sticky chamber.

My magazine is definately the problem with my 7600, this evening I took my son-in-laws magazine from his .270 rifle (7400 remington) and put 4 of my 30-06 shells in his magazine, my gun cycled all 4 rounds without jamming. After close inspection of his 7400 clip and my 7600 I could not tell a difference in them other than the "ears" or top of my clip looks as if they are spread too far apart. I'm going to bend them closer together to see if it corrects my problem but will continue to look for another clip as an extra, guess I can look for a 7400 or 7600 clip now that I know both will work in my rifle.

My magazine now functions perfectly, I filled the mag with empty hulls and then took a small hammer and tapped on all 4 "ears" on top side of the magazine until the hulls fit snug as a bug in a rug, magazine works like it should now, the 7600 will cycle 4 live rounds in the blink of an eye without jamming now.
