In NY  no.  But my wifes uncle says he has killed more deer with his 22lr under the spot light  than any other gun. Sure sounds like a poacher to me.

WV no. A rimfire must be 32 cal. or larger.

I'm not even in favor of allowing 22 cal centerfires, but that's just me. What made NC become LESS restrictive and allow the 22's? It is certainly opposite of the national trend towards more restrictions and prohibitions on everything.

In Ontario, rimfire, shortgun smaller than 20 gauge when loaded with shot or any shotgun with shot small than #1 buck cannot be used for deer hunting.

Kentucky NO.... Nothing rimfire is  allowed. You can use about anything else but buckshot for some reason. Even 410 slugs are allowed. I'm still sratching my head on that one :?

Tennessee is certainly a no. I think a .243 is kind of small but I'm glad that's as low as we go. I'm sure some moron is trying to pass legislation to shoot deer with a .177 caliber B.B. Anyone who kills (or attempts to kill) a deer with a .22 rimfire should be bitch slapped.

British Columbia, Canada - You are not allowed to use rimfires for hunting big game however, a 22 hornet can legally be used for grizzly or moose. Sorry, Bison have special regs. with some velocity/bullet weight requirements. Strangely a 45/70 doesn't meet these requirements. Bureaucrats!?

Alberta - NO WAY. You can't use any rimfire for big game, nor can you use any bullet smaller than .23 cal. That means no .22's, .223's etc. That's the way it should be, too.

I live in coastal NC as well and saw nothing in the regs stating 22 rimfires being legal to hunt with.    Maybe I missed something here, but it wasn't mentioned in the hunting safety course that I sat in with my fiance or I haven't read anything stating its legal.   For all practical purposes, I severely hope that it isn't legal.

CORRECT!   It is illegal to hunt deer with a 22 Rim Fire, actually any Rim Fire cartridge is illegal to hunt deer with in New York state!

ALSO, it is illegal to finish off a "down" deer with a rim fire!

In NY, there is no minimum rifle caliber, as long as it is Center Fire!

TX is a big NO also.

I think there should be a minimum bore diameter of .243 in centerfire rifle everywhere for whitetail and mule deer. It's just the humane and ethical thing to do.

Delaware is a NO. This is a shotgun only State unless you use a Sharps rifle shooting black powder cartridges and paper patch bullets during Shotgun season. Muzzleloaders are allowed also.
