In need of a new stock
« on: December 23, 2009, 12:40:06 AM »
I just picked up a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag at a real good price.  Problem is that it has a badly cracked stock.  I am looking, but have been having a hard time finding a high quality relpacement.  I have found several vendors who have regular replacement stocks, but thats not what I want.  I am looking for a wood upgrade to high grade walnut, maybe even birdseye maple, to go with the SS finish of the rifle.  Really don't want to spend the big $ of a custom maker, as I can do most of the work myself with a semi-inletted piece.  Any ideas?   Thanks

Larry

Try GBO Sponsor Gunstocks, Inc. I'm pretty sure they offer Marlin stocks and have several grades and types of wood offered for the Handis so likely do for the Marlin as well.

There is another outfit I see recommended regularly but danged if I can recall the name of the outfit. Since I've had no dealings with them the name just isn't recorded in the memory bank of my old head.

I checked out Gunstocks Inc. through a quick Google search, and they didn't have anything for Marlins, but the strangest thing is they didn't have a single picture of any stocks or wood?
Was I at the wrong site?

I was over at Tony's Gun Shop, Pickford, MI a while back.  The place is like sort of a cluttered museum.  Anyhow, he has a box of rifle stocks sitting in a corner.  I poked through it and found a really nice looking piece of walnut, Marlin straight grip.  It's in the rough, needs sanding and finishing, 50.00.  Knowing Tony's, I'm sure it's still in the corner collecting dust.  Here's the phone number if you want to inquire about it.
