May have lost my hog hunting place!
« on: December 23, 2009, 04:22:28 AM »
Well, started the holiday season off well (please note the sarcasm in my voice)!  I called the rancher where I hunt hogs this past Monday to see if I could come out that afternoon.  His wife answered the phone and when I asked, told me "no."  When I asked why she told me it was because I had avoided her and didn't seem to have time to talk to her when she was in town (they have a house on our street).  I apologized and told her I didn't remember doing that and if so, I never ignored her intentionally.  She was glad I was sorry but told me I was no longer welcome to come hunt.  Funny thing is, I spoke to her husband last week and he seemed like he wanted me to come back out since I hadn't been out there in a few weeks.  Nevertheless, it's strange, and I'm banished from the hogs for a while.

Call her back.  Ask her if she would accompany you for some "Quality Time" on your next hog outing.  Couldn't hurt...fickle woman.  Sheesh!  Maybe she needs a ham.

I don't think I will be asking any farmers' "wives" if we could spend some quality time together. EEEEEK! That might get you shot. ;) I had rather be "banned" it's less painful. ;)

yeah, I'll think I'll refrain from the "quality time."  But I will let things cool off a bit and then talk with them after the 1st of the year.  Thanks, gents.

Talk with him not her tho if she is mad at you it very well be you're just out of luck as he might not be the kind to do other than his wife wishes. Never understood those kind but it seems a lot are that way. It seems to me she shouldn't be involved in the manner at all but that's just my view.

I've seen that many times GB. I always talk to the man. I do not under any circumstances argue with women. There is no way of winning with them right or wrong, and to me it looks bad on the guy arguing with her.
By the way jamyton! IF you do decide to spend some "quality time" with her as Land_Owner suggested? Could I have your M4? ;D Or you could come up here and hunt. That would be safer. ;D

It's always been a strange situation anyway.  I'd always figured I would get the boot for coming out too often, or not enough, or driving through the wrong pasture, or something like that.  I see the gentleman every now and again in town.  The problem I have is I always call before I go out there and she often answers the phone.  And really, it's not so much about the hunting, I just don't like our relationship like this when it's been good for the 3 years that I've known them.

And Dee, I think my father would have something to say about the M4!

I lost my spot too. But it was because I moved from the east coast of Florida to the center. No farmer's wives involved. Of course I'm not single and I'm way to old for them to care. lol

I haven't lost any hog huntin although there are a couple farmers I have chosen NOT to hunt on. It seems they like to sit in the cafes and say things like: All these hog hunters say they don't find that many hogs on my place, and I see'm every time I plow. Not much of a hunter in my opinion. If they lease the land to hog hunters, then they complain about them shootin everything that moves, PLUS they let dog hunters come in and run the hogs out, and still take the money from the lease holders.
I say, find your own damn hogs, and start carrying a rifle. The ones like this are not pro 2nd Amendment, and some don't own a gun, or want a gun, but they want you to kill the hogs while they bad mouth you for not doing as good a job as THEY think you should.
Now I have lost a deer lease to the big money Dallas hunters. Me and three other guys were paying $500.00 a gun for 35 acres on the Red River and it was a good set up. Four guys from Dallas offered the rancher $1500.00 a gun. Too rich for my blood.

Hey now take it easy on us dog hunters LOL. I have found the farmers I hunt for see more hogs in the day time when we are out there hunting at night. The hogs are still there if there is a good food source. They just change there pattern. On the other hand they will leave the area if the pressure is high and the food source scarce.

Well a quick update.  I talked with the lady's son day before yesterday and his words were, "Yeah, she gets a complex every now and again.  They spend too much time in the country."  He seemed to think it was kinda silly, but didn't offer any resolution.  I did give him the basket of goodies my wife had made for them before all of this happened as a Christmas present.  Yesterday, she and her husband were in town, but I didn't get a chance to talk with them.  We'll see what happens.
