410 buckshot
« on: December 23, 2009, 05:36:16 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with 000 buckshot (3 or 5 pellets) out of a 410.
If so, what choke did you find the patterned the best?
Thanks

I've never used buckshot in the 410 but just wonder what you think you would use it for. IME with 12 & 16 ga buckshot it's very limited range wise and penetration wise as well. I keep a few Brenneke 410 slugs, the 3" ones, and personally would chose those over buckshot.

I got the best pattern out of my daughter's full choked H&R .410 with Winchester 2 1/2" 000 buck. 3 pellets in a perfect 2" triangle @25 yards. The Winchester 3" barely hit the paper.

The combo 22 lr and 414 shotgun will be used as a "backyard gun" for my daughter who is new to shooting. She will use it for chucks, beavers and rabbits out to 50 yards with 22 lr or velocitators  and to 25 -30 yards with the 410 with birdshot  and 000 buck out to a max of 50 yards if they will pattern OK
Yes, I know why the 22lr and 410 and not a larger gun?
She is new to shooting and I want to reduce flinching from recoil and noise and concentrate on one shot marksmanship.
Also the single shot is inherently safe as to loading and clearing. It also allows a second shot with a single shot combo
I think this is a great first gun to learn marksmanship, ammunition capabilities and discipline.

It's a fact that each gun is sometimes fussy about ammo and we just have to try different brands.
Thanks for the input on buckshot.
