Bought a Sig 522
« on: December 24, 2009, 11:19:53 AM »
Very cool rifle...handled the Colt...S&W...and Ruger .22lr clones....liked the Sig the best:

Bought a black 15 rd Black Dog mag for it....like black better than the smoked mag that comes with it...Black Dog makes the mag that comes with the rifle....only diff is the Sig Sauer on the mag.

Also bought the handguard accessory rails from Sig but haven't put them on yet....paid $480 out the door.

Hello

NRAJOE I like the rifle, with the cost of ammo high right now the .22 is the bang for the buck. When I get out I like to have fun and at times a bolt and single shot just do not cut it. I was shooting more of my .22 pistols then anything else . But as of about a week ago that changed I picked up a S&W M&P-15-22. The range I belong to has .22 rimfire only section, with lots of reaction targets, that and the 25 round mag spell fast paced fun. Just think a black dog 50 round drum and you can double the fun. I am thinking about another rifle of this type not sure which one but there are several that caught my eye, the 522 is certainly in the mix also.

People ask me why this type of gun, I answer because I can.

Have a great day

Joe

Between the S&W and two pistols  the son an I went through a brick plus on New Years Eve day.

Cool....I've gotten rid of alot of odd caliber guns that I hardly ever shot and am concentrating on 9mm's...and .22's that I do shoot alot.

Got 20,000 rds of CCI Blazer and plan on doing lot of .22 shooting....along with the SIG I have a 1970 pre warning barrel Ruger MkI....a stainless 10/22 that I've had for yrs...a Steven Mdl 62 that I paid $60 for at the ranger 'cuz it was jamming up on a fella.

All I had to do was polish the little feed ramp on the mag....works perfect now.

Plan on getting another .22 lr clone as soon as I can....have fun out there.

Hello

I just read that the towers for the 10-22 to use with the BDM drum are out. Plus I was able to get some .22 LR at Wally World today, all is right in the world. ;) ;D ;D  We have two of 10-22s and a Charger along with other .22 RF. Man-O-Man we need more ammo.  ;D ;D

Have a great day

I just bought one a few hours ago  :)

After a ton of research it came down to the S&W and the Sig. Gun shop had both for the same price and I got to handle them. It was near a toss-up, but the Sig just looked and felt more solid.

If they come out with different forends (I don't like quad rails) and a threaded barrel, I may get the S&W too. It's probably the better deal considering it comes with sights. Super light too. Good gun for my 10 year old and for Dad as well. I like the fact that a lot of AR stuff will fit it.

I still like my Calico M100 with wood stock, but some of these new 22's are pretty neat.

Anyone planning to buy one of the recent crop of tactical 22's should do research though; from the reports, some appear to be more reliable than others...

Hello

Looks good NRAJOE, how has it been working for you? I had a issue with my M&P and sent it back to S&W on their request. I think it may have been ammo related but they said to send it in. It is back and I have not had a chance to pick it up with all the OT and snow as of late. I also been thinking about getting a AR lower and put a Tac-Sol upper on it, you know two are better then one.  ;D ;D    A friend has one and it looks and feels like the real deal and it seems to shoot all ammo well too.

Have a great day

Ain't been able to shoot it yet....too snowy and cold here...the only inside range that goes for more than 40 yds is out in the sticks.
Gonna have to shoot it soon! Going nuts just looking at it!

Can't wait until spring/summer gets here and can go to the club 100 yd range!

Hello

NRAJOE I finally picked up my M&P on this past Thursday after the snow storm. S&W gave me a free mag for my troubles as well as fixed the issue which was a major feeding problem. I was antsy so on Saturday I loaded up the three 25 round mags I have for it and put them in the rifle box along with the rifle and off to the range. I was there about 15 minuets. Of the 75 rounds I sent down range I had one failure to feed and that was with the new mag I bought when I picked up the rifle. So all is well here and all is right in the world on this day.

Also I ordered a AR15 lower so things should be alright for a long while, and even better when I get an upper.

Have a great day

I was handling another S&W 15-22 at the gunstore Friday....still want one someday.
All the writeups have been great.
The one at the store is $450 and has no flash hider...but saw one at a show that did have a flash hider....$499.

Flash hider isn't needed, but adds to the look... ;)

Hello

That is what I paid for mine, but heard Cabalas had them on sale for 399. That would have been an hour drive each way for me during the holidays so I did not mind the extra  money. Besides when I had to send it back I all had to do is write a note as to the problem and drop off the rifle at the place where I purchased it. I asked them to thread my barrel when it was back, but was told that the service center was not prepared to do that type of work. I even offered to pay for the service. Any way all is well on this end. A friend on another board has two M&P15-22s and both of his have flash hiders and they are not threaded on and they do not screw up the barrel or finish . I will do this  if I can not find a local smith to thread the barrel in the future. I did pick up a Tasco red dot for the M&P but I like the looks of the knock off Accog scopes much better. lots of accessories to bye, but please do not tell my wife.

Have a great day

Joe ( thinking about sneaking to the range today )

As an FYI, S&W replied to my inquiry that they do not intend to make an "M4rgery" version of their M&P22 that will more closely resemble their own M&P15 AR or the airsoft-based Walther-built Umarex "Colt M4".

I am missing the attraction of this gun.  The notion of a tactical .22 makes no sense.  To each their own on styling.  It doesn't appear to have what it takes for either target shooting or for hunting.  What is the attraction?

Training for the similar CF rifle with cheaper ammo, plinking, and for wannabe commandos who like the style but can't afford the 'real' version.  ;D

Also, in CA we have to jump through hoops to get CF evil black rifles. Rimfires with similar features are A-OK though...

I imagine the aftermarket will be making all kinds of stuff for them soon.

For me, the attraction is a cheap-to-shoot .22LR version of the more expensive to buy/shoot CF gun that I know that I can't afford or don't want to spend on. I have an M261 kit for my ARs and they can now be affordably shot on a regular basis.

When the 22-versions work well and are reasonably authentic - the SIG522, S&W M&P15/22, WASR22 AKM, the new Umarex "HK" .22 guns coming, the Umarex "Colt" guns, the GSG MP5's - then it is even more fun to have one.
I'd love to see the day when we have affordable .22LR versions of the AUG, L85/SA80, FAMAS, StG44/45, Garand, M14, HK G36, HK G3, FAL.

A smart company would recognize the popularity and demand for such "toys" - and given the limitations that 922 import restrictions pose - the market for making and selling rimfire evil black rifles.

Thanks Joe - one cool .22LR !!  I had a 10/22 on layaway but dumped it and snagged a used Remmy 597 instead. Both have 25rd hi-cap capabilities, but the Remmy has an eaily removable front site post if needed.

I mention that as I will someday - once I get the Remmy working perfectly - try something as seen at this site, maybe a G36, MP44, M14;

I especially like the creative use of a Marlin Model 60 tube-fed as an HK G36...
