Any shooting irons under the Christmas tree?
« on: December 25, 2009, 05:38:18 AM »
Santa gave my sweetie a stainless Charter Arms 'Undercover', 2" snubby revolver w/ bobbed hammer for Christmas.

Anyone else here get any new shooting irons under their Christmas tree?

Guess I wasn't as good as my wife this year because I didn't get any guns.  But I did get a nice pair of sheepskin slippers and a soft and fuzzy micro-fleece bath robe.

Well sort of Brett. Santa put a CZ452 Full Stock on lay-a-way for me earlier this month. But he said I could have it in January if I promised to be a good boy and a good shot. Of course, he also mentioned that his obligation had been met and that I'd be responsible for paying the rest of the lay-a-way costs. Damn Santa! ;D

Nothing under the tree but a Super 16 Contender barrel in 7.62 x 39 with a .311 bore ordered from MGM. Also about to send my 357 mag Super 16 off and have it opened up to a 357 Max. Gave my daughter a Colt Detective Special and one of my best friends a stainless 357 Blackhawk. I just love playing Santa Claus. Merry Christmas to all.

Bravo to all you good folks that made sure Santa brought a gun for the kids (even the GI Joe guns ;)) In my opinion, whether it be a BB Gun for the kindergärtner, a new .22 rifle for the 10-year-old, or perhaps an AR15 for the teenager, guns are an excellent means of teaching kids about true responsibility.

Got a beautiful little H&R  Top Break, .32 S&W, nickle plated, with Mother Of Pearl grips.  I wanted it for a display case I'm building.  Also got a leather shoulder holster for Concealed Carry that fits my Ruger P-85 9mm.

Nope no funds for guns around here. In fact it's now been over 18 months I think since the last one came home with me. Yup having withdrawal badly but such is life.

I did get a pair of fake fur lined 10" moccasins and Faye got 6" tall ones to keep our feet and ankles warm with the heat turned a bit lower to save on the heating bill. We did splurge on a 32" TV for Phil our youngest son who still lives with us.

I reckon it was the least money spent this time of year in far longer than I can recall.

As former prez Slick Willie would say "I feel your pain." GB.   I wish Santa could have delivered a new (or even used) S&W Airweight to my wife but best I he could do was the used CA.

No shooting stuff under the tree, but a lot of toys and clothes for the kids.  We bought mostly school supplies and educational toys.  We did give in and give them all a hand held gaming system with a couple of games a piece.  Evan got a PSP.  Bradley got a Nintendo DS, and Wyatt got a Gameboy advanced.  Matt found them dirt cheap and not working.  He fixed them up, and they play just fine.

I insisted Matt and I have some Bama gear so there were SEC Championship shirts and other Tide t-shirts under our tree.  Then we visited several different extended families and got more than we ever could have asked for.  We were very blessed that we could give and recieve gifts this year, but most of all it was wonderful spending time with family and friends celebrating the birth of Christ.

Santa submitted to a Weatherby Vanguard, synthetic stock in .243.  Broke in the barrel this week but forgot my target frame so I don't know how well it's shooting yet.  Even though I use a checklist whenever I go to the range somehow I manage to forget something from time to time.  I never forget the unimportant things, just stuff like ammo and target frames.  Luckily there's a gun shop near the range.

This week I remembered my target frame.  Ended up with a .637 inch 5 shot group at 100 yards using hand loads.  The first three shots of that group was .449 inch.  I'm sure I can do better as I work up my loads, but this isn't bad at all to start with.  I broke in the barrel by shooting 1 then cleaning (three times) then shooting 3 then cleaning (3 times) then shooting 5 times then cleaning (three times).  Not sure if it really helped (since I forgot my target frame at my first outing), but if it did, these groups are worth it.  I was shooting once fired (in the Vanguard) Remington brass (neck sized only), CCI primers, PMC-PSP 100 grain bullets set .030 off the lands, and 35 grains of H4350.  The Vanguard is a sweet shooter.  Thank you Santa!

We did real good at the Parker house this year. Kreighoff drilling for me and my son-in-law found a new stainless synthetic ruger mini 14 under the tree.

The best present I got though was having all the kids & grandkids home for Christmas.  ;D I laughed and smiled the whole week.

Blessings in the new year to you all,
