H&R Huntsman trigger/hammer help.
« on: December 25, 2009, 07:21:24 AM »
Hi,
H&R 45 cal. Huntsman.
This is the second time the hammer wouldn't stay in the cocked position.  After a dozen or so shots I had the first failure.  I dissembled the gun and cleaned it; (didn't look dirty) reassembled and it worked for six more shots.   I can hold the trigger forward while cocking the hammer and it stays put.  When I let off the forward pressure the hammer falls.  I'm thinking the problem is the "spring trigger #33" in the owner manual posted in FAQ's.  Has anyone else that this problem?  I did take this Michigan buck with my first shot after the cleaning.

It's a standard 1/8" diameter spring, you should be able to buy one at your local hardware store and cut it to length. If that doesn't do it, you need a new hammer and/or trigger which can be ordered from Brownell's or Numrich, Numrich carries the spring too. You may even be able to stretch the current spring a little or shim under it in the spring pocket to get by temporarily.

Thanks Tim,  I thought it would be a standard spring; off to the store tomorrow.  I did stretch it a hair during the cleaning, now it's time for a replacement.  Thanks for the help and Merry Christmas.
