Ok, this is my best shot with a digital camera at close range. It is an XS front sight cut down to proper height, and is identical to the one on my Model 92 also. You can also order sight blanks of different widths from Brownells, and cut a small line down the sight for the white vertical strip down the center of the post. When centered, this makes an excellent "fine bead" on a small target, or more precise shot. Unless of course your getting old like me, and a 100 yard shot into a # 2 wash tub is a good shot.

I got the tang sight mounted,

Looks great Dan!

Quote
The front sight is now sharp and clear again for the first time in about 2 years, and at 50 yards I was shooting under an inch.

Not bad!?   :o  That's down right marvelous!   :D  I settled for 2 - 2.5 inches at 50 yards with my '94 for this year!   :-[  That was with the WGS I put on the 30-30...  Nothing's sharp and clear for me, but I believe I was able to sight better through the tang sight on the M73 then the receiver sight on the 94.   :-\

Okay, you convinced me.  A Marble's Tang sight goes on the M92!   ;D

Soon as I get some extra coin I am going to put a Marble's tang on my Model 92, it already has the front sight on it. You'll like it. Right now the 3030 is going to be my go to AGAIN, but I really like the 92 and it's feel. The sight is a little fuzzy but the tang will clear it up.

All three of my Marlins have Warne 'Maxima' Quick Detach rings and bases.  The .30-30 and .45-70 have Leupold 2-7 scopes, which are fairly compact, the .375 Win has a Leupold 4x.

All three are zeroed for MPBR with a maximum 3" rise.  That puts them 3" down at ranges from about 205 yards to 220 yards, depending on the load.

I punched a mulie buck at a lasered 197 yards with the .45-70 and have never seen a animal leak faster.  It looked like someone had sloshed blood out of a five-gallon bucket onto the snow.  The next day I took a 6x6 bull elk at a lasered 213 yards, again with the .45-70.  The bull just stood there for a few seconds.  As I was getting ready to trip the trigger again he fell over sideways.

The antelope buk I took at 174 yards with my .375 Win took a death leap and collapsed.  Not 200 yards but I doubt the result would have been any different.

The .30-30 is still a virgin in my hands, something I hope to corret this fall.  Any game animal at 200 yards is in big trouble...

Here's my final tune on my Marble's tang sight today. 5/8" group at 50 yards. Not bad for a 60 year old man shootin a 52 year old rifle. I measured from center to center on the two farthest shots of the 3 shot group. Two are in the same hole. I may sell my Model 92 357 mag.

Blind hog finds an acorn AtlLaw, I wish I'd bought that tang sight 40 years ago when I could really see. It is old world style and craftsmanship. There is not one thing in that sight that is not gun quality steel. It's top drawer.

Thanks Dan, I'm gonna order one for my 92 tonight!   ;D

Seriously, that's just great open sight shooting to me!  Like I said, with my 150 gr. handloads in my (post '64) 94 wearing a Williams receiver sight and Firesight front sight  I had to accept 2+ inches at 50 yards.   :(  My 45 Colt M73 with a tang sight and large ivory bead front sight did a whole lot better at around an inch at 50.  That's still over twice the size of your groups!   :o

Granted, the longest shot I could have had where I hunted this last season was 50 yards.  And for that, those groups were fine.  But...  :-[

Oh well, you've given me a goal to... uh, shoot for so to speak!   ;D

Dan firmly recommended the Lyman 66 I think it was.  After talking to him about it and compareing it to the Williams' I put on my Marlin M30TK and Win M94 I can see why.

That Lyman 66 is a great peep site! I've got one in a drawer here somewhere. Not sure what it came off. There is a Williams that Dad put on my Persian Carbine before he scoped it and a Redfield that was on my Grandfather's Rem722 when he bought it used in '53. The tang site on my '73 has a damaged slide that someone 'fixed' - not sure what brand it is. Not very stable as is. It's also packed away somewhere.

Ain't gettin' old fun!?!?

Gettin old is for sure a real hoot. BUT! It's nice though, when you realize you don't need a bunch a stuff you thought you did, when you were younger. Less frustration. Life gets simpler, and more relaxed. Is simpler a word? Spell check says it is. Hmmmmm. Oh well.
