Thanks for the compliments. The barrel length is 44" less handle and vent shield, 1.75" bore, 4.5" diameter breech with a 1/2 degree taper cut from the front of the breech band to the muzzle, 1.75" trunnion diameter. Wheel diameter is 28" wheels, carriage length is about 48". I started with a 4 foot piece of 3-1/2"od x .875 wall 1026 cold drawn seamless for the main tube. Dom

My first impression was that it's a muzzleloading replica of a breechloader.

Of course, if the breech mechanism actually works then that's just icing on the cake.

This Whitworth has a "mock" breech, it was made as a muzzleloader. There is a standard vent on the top of the tube. I think Dom did an awesome job reproducing the breech to look like an original.

I was waiting to see if anyone noticed that. It's a muzzleloader. The hinge is nothing more than a piece of solid round with grooves cut into it to appear as if it's three seperate pieces. It is cut into a piece of split rectangle tubing that's welded to the side of the breech tube. The rear handle is removable. The vent is at the top of the barrel.

Kevin, This is one of the last large barrels I will be building. I may possibly offer it as a 1/6 scale rifled or smoothbore breechloader. Possibly.

Brian, the wheels were made in Ohio by a wheelwright and sent directly to Dom for this build.

I am staying in business. The largest field cannon in my new inventory will be about a 1/4 scale. I'll also have golf ball and soda can mortars, a few naval cannons, handgonnes, and cheroot canes with different style civil war barrels, Parrott, Sawyer, Napoleon, etc. I still have about six large projects to build before I can concentrate on new inventory. These large orders have to be completed by the end of February.

Will you offer the whitworth cannon in the 1/4 scale? will that size be chambered for golf balls? When you say 1/4 scale what will the overall length be? I'm saving up for one of your barrels, just want to make sure that I can get it. would also love to have a whitworth style cannon $:-\$
