I really can't see that happening here in Alaska, guns are a way of life for us.  We all have them and none of us are going to give them up.  Right down to Sarah and Todd Palin.  If they started we would hear about it and have time to get out away from town.  And woo be unto any one who tried to follow us.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I fully expect to die but figure or at least hope I take out more of them than the one of me they get. I do believe it is when and not IF they will come for our guns.

I would expect to die as well, but more than likely I'd die before they came into my home, from shooting them in the back for going into my neighbors home.
I think I'd rather die on the offensive then on the defensive.  Give them something to think about while going into people's homes.
Better yet, once eveyone knows this is coming down, just pay their main office a visit, save them some gas. I never liked waiting around for what you know is going to happen.

So who keeps guns around anyway?  I wouldn't have any of those things around if my life depended on it.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.  Besides, if they hit my neighbor's place first, they'll be occupied there for a long time.

one thing ive always wondered is would they only be able to find where to come get the guns that were bought in a store where a 4473 was filled out then all that needs to be said is i sold them or they were stolen then the goverment would probably proceed to destroy your home while searching for them

They will start with people that are not at home. Are we suppose to stay home constantly to watch for this?  Believe me i know it has already happen to me. It took me over six months to get my guns back. When i went to pick up my guns the idiots had twenty long guns of mine jammed in a garbage can. There wasn't a lawyer in this whole county that would help me file an unreasonal search and seizure charge.

They will not come for your guns they will tax them and ammo until most can't afford them. They will outlaw more and more types of weapons, until all are outlawed then  they will require that you turn them in and many of us will.
Many of us will also hide our guns and they will not be easy to access. At this point we will be easy prey
for the gun grabbers our numbers reduced our weapons hidden away.

quite likely.

additionally.. continue to add to the list of 'crimes' that constitute 'felonies' or otherwise disqualify one from owning a firearm. Example: 'domestic violence' law. In many states... a woman (usually a wife, ready to divorce) can go to a judge and ask for a 'restraining order' and get non-parte order - all she has to do, is say she's scared. The police can come to your house, kick you out, and take your firearms. Ten days later you go to a hearing where the decision is made on whether or not to continue the order for a year. The inclincation of judges is to leave the order in place.

OR... let's say you have a fight with your wife. She goes hysterical, slapping. You lose your cool and slap back. She calls the police. THEN SHE presses charges, and you get convicted. Doesn't have to be a felony - and you've just lost the right to bear arms.

I'm not willing to die for my guns and I'm not willing to hide them either.  I'd give them up and, perhaps, leave the country for a friendlier place. I've been all over the world and there are lots of places where I can keep my guns and live happily. My wife and I have already been looking for a second home in a secret place [we don't mention it because we don't want a whole bunch of people moving there  ;D ] where I can keep all the guns I want. I served this country 40 years ago as an Infantry Officer, I've paid enough taxes to support a couple leper colonies, I've spent 35 years battling constitutional rights in one courtroom or another, and I figure I don't owe the USA anything more.

I agree.  This scenario is more likely than a military type door to door sweep to collect guns.  The government will simply create more and more 'legal' reasons to ban them or take them from us one individual at a time.  Soon simple traffic violations, or taking certain prescription medications will be reason enough to ban someone from owning a firearm.

Ever get into a verbal confrontation with someone, a store clerk/manager, another driver, whoever, and the cops were called?  This could be deemed reason enough to confiscate your guns, doesn't mater that no physical contact was made or no charges were filed.

I'm sure you have all heard the old adage "Q: How do you eat an Elephant?... A: One bite at a time."  Private gun ownership in this country is an elephant to those who want power over us.  They will simply find ways to eat the elephant one bite at a time.

A mass military collection effort would in all likelihood meet with a strong resistance from the populous but who here would die for your neighbors guns if a new law were passed that made his guns illegal?

Look at history.  There were no mass confiscations of guns in the UK or OZ.  They just slowly but surely chipped away at them thru the legal system until gun ownership for all but the elite is non existent in those countries.  Even the Nazis did not start out conducting mass raids they started slowly and only after they had already comfiscated the majority of weapons did they begin to raid homes in mass.

That day cannot come in this country legally under our constitution. If law breaking usurpers attempt this, they would be violating our constitution and our rights which is treason and a crime against the people. It is our obligation, as Americans to fight off these foreign usurping invaders to preserve the laws of this land and help support our government restore legal constitutional law.

A foriegn invasion is already underway. Usurpers are in control in many places of our government. The invasion and usurpers actions are slow but sure. In response, the people reaction will also be slow but sure once it begins.

A gun grab isn't going to happen in the forseeable future. There are 65 pro-gun democrats in the House and 8 in the Senate. It's pretty hard for a Democrat to be elected in most of the real West [California is not the real West] or in the South unless they are pro-gun. A heavy tax on gun ownership won't fly either. Even if SCOTUS hadn't decided Heller, confiscatory taxes generally won't withstand constitutional scrutiny. That especially won't happen if the taxes infringe on a constitutionally protected right. The biggest worry you have, at this point in time, is if SCOTUS refuses to incorporate the 2nd amendment into the due process clause of the 14th amendment.  That would give local governments a free hand in regulating guns. If that happens, you can quit worrying about your gun rights from the federal government level and you'd better worry about them at the local and state level.

Sorry if I sound like some dirtbag constitutional lawyer but that's what I have been for 35 years and I can't change that.  ;D  Nevertheless, gear up for a gun rights fight at your state and local levels in case SCOTUS doesn't apply the doctrine of selective incorporation in our favor. This is interesting from a legal standpoint because conservative justices have never liked incorporating the amendments to the states and liberal justices, before Heller, wanted them all incorporated.  I can't wait to watch these hairballs scramble to change horses in mid-stream.  ;D

That won't stop them if they become determined enough.  Constitutional amendments can be repealed by the act of an additional amendment.

The 21st Amendment to the constitution:

"The eighteenth article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed."

If they get the public support they'll simply repeal the 2nd amendment with an additional one.

I have to agree with what was already posted. Very unlikely that there would be all out gun confiscation. If it would ever come to that, I'll give them one bullet at a time. gypsyman

I believe that takes the approval of 37 states. That would NOT be easy to come by.

It takes the approval of 37.5 states so that is, effectively, 38 states. [Article V].  It also takes the approval of 3/4 of the Senate and 3/4 of the House to send it to the states for approval. I can list 20 states off the top of my head, without even thinking hard, where it wouldn't have a snowman's chance of passing. At the moment, they couldn't get 40% of the members of Congress to go for it let alone 75%. I really doubt that they could muster more than 30% in Congress and probably less than 30% of the states.

i believe a few years back they had a voluntary thing where you could bring in a gun and they would destroy it and maybe you got a tax credit or something along those lines just remembering seeing alot of guns melted down

Those folks in New Orleans did not think troops would take their guns either.  Yes they eventually got them back, but at the time, and for months afterwards, they were defenseless.

We never expected an Illegal Alien to be president either.  He can not, but he is.

I don't think local police will come to try to take our guns. I think it will be feds of some sort, perhaps with an acorn affliation. obama has spoken of a civilian corps, stronger and better equipped than the military, does the term "Brownshirts" ring a bell?....<><....:)
