Handi Rifles, Straightwall Cartridges and Blackpowder...

So does anybody out there shoot blackpowder in straightwall cases out of your Handi??

I've always thought this would be a perfect combination for shooting blackpowder cartridges.  What have your findings been?

I'd like to get a .44 based rifle to do this with, such as a .44Magnum or a .444Marlin.

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I have shot black out of my 45-70 and 38-55 handy rifles and they both worked OK.  I see no reason with proper lube and lead bullets why it would not work for other calibers.  I have shot black out of lever actions in 357 mag, 44 Mag and 45 Colt with good results as well.

I put a couple of pounds of the BLACK stuff through my 45/70 every year , just for fun , and have never had an issue with it , clean up is a snap too .

As said , the lube is key for both good groups as well as cleaning , and stick with a 30 to 1 or softer alloy for the bullets .

I like to shoot black powder out of my 45-70. It has open sights so clean up is a snap. Take the barrel off and put it in the tub to scrub it. 5 minutes and you're done. It takes longer to clean up the tub afterwards.

No kidding!  I caught hell from Teeny once for not getting the tub clean all the way.   I still believe she's grumbling about it from Heaven. lol
