Hope you all had a good Christmas........Now lets hear from you.
« on: December 26, 2009, 01:20:01 AM »
Hello from McBean,

Christmas has come and gone yet again and things will begin to settle down. Not sure if I will get to hunt much more this deer season, but I am planning some slam bang shootemup coyote hunts after the first of the year. I hunt with a guy who has permission to hunt the pastures and swamps around a working dairy farm and they see coyotes almost daily. I am looking forward to trying out a few different rounds including a .17 HMR (a bit light I think?) as well as the old trusted Mini 14 .223, and my favorite varmint gun, a NEF 45/70 with some hot loaded 350 gr. JSPs. Squirrell season is still in till the end of Feb. so I will be taking my son and the neighbor boy on some good hunts too. All in all my one deer season has been pretty good. Sure, I could have killed more, but sometimes being patient is not as productive as shooting everything you see. I am still waiting on that big Whompuss Buck that I have seen a few times, and may just catch him this afternoon.
So, lets hear from you now. Hunting luck ? new acquisitions ? cool stories ? Come on Georgia folks, we wanna hear from ya ! Have a great day.

Dave

Not much to tell in the hunting catagory. It has rained so much and the deer are moving late in the evening. :'( I went deer hunting Saturday evening and while I was sitting on the stand 2 catfish and a pond sucker swam by. ;D All the water has changed their movement to different trails. Sure hope things change before the season ends.

Christmas was good, I like having the kids around almost as much as I like seeing them leave!   ;D

Now I got to get ready for my traditional New Year's Day meal!  Collards & hog jowls, blackeyed peas & hog jowls, cornbread, Ham & lima beans, beer...

It's been about 6 weeks since I've been able to get out hunting.   :(  The deer went nocternal after the first 2 weeks of the season!   ::)  My trail cam has been sitting out at the farm all this time; I'm sure the battery's long dead.

But I just got off the phone with my hunting partner and I'm going to head to so. Jawja about Jan 2 or 3 for a few days.  I plan on doing a bunch of huntin and shootin, but it's spose to be cold!  30's at night, 50's during the day!   :'(  Not fit wx for man nor beast!

All my kids came home this year, except for one son in law who just shipped out to the Middle East.  We've had 5 adults, 4 kids, and 5 dogs here for the last 3 weeks.  It's been pandelerium!

Santa brought me one more gun.  He happened upon a 357 Handi with a broken stock, and it was promptly restocked with a Survivor set I had.

Haven't hunted at all.  Helped a bit with the lease before the season, but then had shoulder surgery, and a heart attack during.

I did get some meat though, the fellows decided to "thin the herd" of does, and I got some meat.

Next year will be better.
