I dont think you could go wrong with either. Just pick the one that feels/looks the best.

I shoot a left hand savage MKIIGL that has the older style NON accutrigger, this is a great little rifle.  it came with a 10 round mag, but i got 5 round mags that fit flush and its a great little target and hunting gun.  i have a bushnell 3x9 rimfire scope on it.  It groups 1.25 inches at 50 yards with CCI Velicitors.  That group is is usually a 3/4 inch group with a flyer.   I shoot 5 shot groups.

I just got a marlin 925 basic bolt action that i have my son shoot with iron sights.  I'm 48 and my eyes arent the best for iron sights anymore, but in the 50 foot indoor range at my club, i shot half inch groups with velocitors.  Someone with younger eyes or a scope would do a lot better.

They are both great rifles that will last the rest of your life if you take care of them.  I prefer the Marlin now mainly because i do not like the Accutrigger.  I know its very popular, but all it takes is a little twig to get stuck in it and it will keep the rifle from firing.

But both are solid little rifles.  The main differeces are the savage is available only with accutrigger, and has left hand options.

the marlin has microgroove rifline which works fine with rimfires, but is only available in right hand.

Both lock up solid, and both have their magazine feed lips right infront of the chamber so feeding is jam free on both.

i just remembered, when i got my savage MKIIGL, when it was still new, the trigger was the old style, and not that great.  there was a sticky on the rimfire cental forum on shimming the trigger.  I did that modification myself.  it litterally was lossening the rear screw bolt on the trigger unit and shimming it with a spacer cut out from a soda can.  This decreased the amount of contact on the sear, and now my rifle has crisp 4 pound trigger pull.  it was heavier and grittier before i shimmed it.

The current Accutrigger wont have this issue.  The current marlin trigger was pretty good as it comes.

I hope this helps.

I got my son a Savage MKII youth left hand.  Its a nice gun but we have trouble now and then putting side pressure on the accutrigger - or whatever causes the malfunction. It will go snap but not bang. Have to recock and aim again. The trigger pull is nice but sometimes I find that little problem irritating. So far we have only used the gun at the range so no game lost. For adult fingers it is less likely a problem tho I've done it a few times with his gun too. I know for hunting, I would not rush out to get the centerfire accutrigger for this same issue. It isn't a deal breaker but I wouldn't pass up an older Sav centerfire without it either. Oh and like a previous post said, I like the 5 round mags that don't hang out the bottom. But my boy likes the 10 round fire power. That'll change when he buys the shells - especially THESE days.

Why just those 2 ?  There are so many more to look at but you seemed to have settled on those or have you looked at all the others and these  are more to your liking.  Just curious.   :)
