NEF buyout

Now that NEF has been bought out and moved to South Carolina, it appears production has nearly stopped. Are they going to import this rifle like so many former US gun makers in the future with their logo on it?

Now that this is all happening you need to go to the classifieds and buy up all of the remaining American made guns for sale there. I heard there was a .357 a 20ga slug gun along with a 17HMR and a 500 S&W mag gettem before they are all gone forever Kurt

The NEF name is all but gone, the only products bearing that name are the imported repeater shotguns, but H&R is alive and well, not in SC either, the plant is in Ilion NY at the Remington facility, and customer service is in Madison NC along with Remington customer service. I explained to you in the PM that during 2009 only their best selling firearms would be made, I knew that and posted it last year when they moved out of Gardner, so there's no surprise, but 2010 production will be ramped up.

Exactly like Quick said. I happen to have a 2009 H&R/NEF catalog on my desk and all the single-shot shotguns, like the Topper and the Pardner, along with all the Hand-Rifles, are now branded H&R. The only NEF items in the catalog are the Pardner Pump and the Excell Auto shotguns.

Read your post.  Had to get out the nitro tablets. Wow, glad it was just misinfo. That was a bad feeling, especially during the happy holidays. I had already called the funeral home to make reservations.

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me in the future. Remington dropped the Spartan line which is a serious working gun.
They've loosened quality control on their 700's and in general seem headed for a lot of the mistakes that ruined Winchester.

Time will tell. If they do start outsourcing it all, hopefully Baikal will get the job. It's right down their line. Tough as nails, ugly, working guns. Overall quality would improve.

Yeah if it were to happen o would hope baikal got it as well.  Although remington jumped up their price point substanially when they bought the rights for american distribution.  When EAA was still selling them I got a sweet little 28ga sidebyside that is still my favorite shotgun.

I didn't know they were considering an IPO. I'll have to watch it. If I recall correctly, they own Panther, Bushmaster and Cobb.
They have at least a finger in most pots.

You'll really be able to tell when Remington starts putting out cheesy looking commemoratives every month or so.  Must be they hired a bunch of former Winchester managers, from the sound of it.  You're right about those Baikals.  Tough, ugly, but working guns.  I often wondered what Remington was thinking when they imported the Baikal 3 1/2 inch 12 ga autoloader for their Spartan line.  Remington autoloaders always had a great reputation before--and from what I can tell based upon a friend's experience with that Baikal autoloader, it was, for him, a cheap, tough, ugly, and utterly reliable gun that would interchangeably feed all lengths of 12 ga shells with no adjustment. I wonder how many of those Remington sold?

I've got a 12 and a 16 Baikal side-by-side. I had a 20 but traded it.  Had some o/u's and traded those.  I'm left-handed and if there's any criticism to be made about Baikal at all, it's that they make their stocks bent a bit for a righty.  But given the price, if the one you get isn't too bent, it can be fixed up with a rasp and some sandpaper, right at home. I'd be really unwilling to try that myself on a Browning, Ruger, or other pricey shotgun with fancy wood, but starting out you don't have that much in a new Baikal to begin with.
