blizzard, stores running low on food

6 chickens in the backyard keep me in all the eggs I need plus enough to dehydrate and sell/trade a few.   
Not enough room for a cow or goat or I would have milk too.

How do go about dehydrating eggs? How well do they keep?

I just explained it in another thread.  I did a dozen about 3 months ago and I store them in a ziplock on the shelf.  They will last longer than I need them to.

Good idea MR. I'm going to pass this on to a couple that has about 20 chickens that are laying like crazy.

We don't eat much dried stuff, but I like to have it on the shelf for bad times because it is durable. If the juice goes off, freezers stop working, and in lots of homes so does the heat. Canned stuff will break if it gets too cold.

I like the dried eggs for camping and such.  If I was going to store long term I would put the egg powder in a mason jar and use the attachment for my food saver to vacuum seal the jar. My brother and I are looking to do a canoe trip this summer and I plan on taking some dried eggs for breakfast.  I have never made this much but I figure a qt. jar will hold at least 5 dozen dried eggs.

Back when I did a tour of duty in Korea, we eat powdered eggs and powdered milk every morning for 13 months. I kind of got burned out on them after that span of time, but I guess a few days of eating wouldn't be too bad.

 We are just on the west  edge of the  big blizzars that is covering the midwest...But the one small town grocries store is out of egg and very low on milk and bread ...
   East of us where icey rain took out power befor the blizzard..

Time to fire up the BBQ and take the dog for a short walk out back......

No they look pretty much like any other omelet or scrambled eggs I have eaten.  I will cook some tomorrow or Saturday and post some pictures.

Must have been ironglow. I know when I left that place and flew over to Japan on a C-124, we ordered a couple of gallons of milk and a big stalk of bananas for lunch. The people in the Air Force terminal cafeteria looked at us like we had been lost for a while. 

We finally got some real eggs for breakfast when we landed over at Midway Island on the way back home.

They probably have real eggs in Korea now and paved roads too!

I always thought it was odd, how folks freaked out when a winter storm was on the way. I always think to myself that, in any situation, my family of six could survive on what's in the house for at least 5-7 days before we had to think about throwing the family pets on the grill. I've never seen a storm lock us down for more than 3 days or so. Even in back in '95-'96 when we had upwards of 4 feet of snow dropped on us all at once.
