I have a stevens 44 1/2 in 22lr that I was thinking of converting to center fire for BPCR shooting.I can order a center fire breech block from CPA and get a Douglas barrel made for it.The question is caliber.I have seen 44's in 38-55 but what I have read that is on the small side.I would rather have a blackpowder 45-70.Can a original stevens 44 1/2 be made to handle the pressure and can the cartridge even fit pass the hammer?

Your best bet is to talk with Paul Shuttleworth, owner of CPA:
CPA Corporation
RR 2 Box 1012
Dingmans Ferry, PA 18328
Phone: 1 (570) 828-1669
Fax: 1 (570) 828-8333
Email: info@cparifles.com
His 44 1/2's are 45-70 among the many other calibers
