.430" 310gr GC
« on: December 26, 2009, 04:58:27 PM »
I just got some of the 310gr .430" GC bullets from Oregon Trail and I was curious if anyone had any info on loads for them?  I have 2400  and Unique on hand.  I have a Lee manual and it states that 13.5grs is max for the 310 lead while I have seen where others have went up to around 18grs with 2400.  Unique loads?

I will be shooting these in a S&W 629-5.

Thanks

With the S&W not being known as a real strong action , I'd keep the 2400 loads down to around the 17g range , that should give you around 950 fps , while the Unique loads should be no more than 8g Max .

Thanks.  I am not looking to redline these babies, it is from a Mountain Gun so recoil can get brisk pretty quick.  If I can't get one to go through a deer broadside at 950-1000fps, the deer is probably made of titanium.

I'll probably start around 14grs of 2400 and move up.  I did some more searching and 15-16grs of 2400 seem to be pretty good loads.

Seems that 13.5grs of 2400 with the 310 WFNGC is going to be a good load.  After 30 rounds I got the shakes in my hands, that little gun will beat on you after a bit.  I am going to try a few more a little later today or tomorrow.  No idea what they are running my chrono died and I haven't bought another one.
