.404
« on: December 29, 2009, 04:54:48 AM »
I am posting like crazy, I am pumped to get to africa.
You don't hear much about the .404 though I know that the .416 grabs all the attention but really in the real world not that many .416 rifles were made back in the old day's. I base this off what my dad told me of course the american gun writers will make it sound like you can find a 416 Rigby behind every bush and everyone should have one  ::)I have always thought the .404 was a common cal right after the .375?. I now know the 416 is alive Now and doing well but some cals get over looked.Yep I have a 10.75x73 the right name for it lol!

My friend (and my loads  ;)) - has only good experience with 404 Jeffery.
All of his B6 have been shot with that caliber.
But he don`t like the recoil  :D

I also have a friend whose only big bore is a 404. Expensive brass and dies, but otherwise he is very happy. Gets 400gr out at around 2100-2150 fps as I recall, 24" barrel.

I think Kai Uwe-Denker carries a 404 as his back up in Namibia, including hunting elephant.
