Replacement bolt for Springfield Model 840 in .222
« on: December 29, 2009, 12:33:33 PM »
Hi there. I am new to this forum but someone told me that if I had any question about any gun, I could ask it here and likely get an answer! So -

Where might I be able to purchase the bolt assembly for a Savage Arms Springfield Model 840 rifle in .222?  My 17 year old son somehow managed to lose this rifle bolt in the woods this deer season! Needless to say, that gun is out of commission until we can find a replacement bolt. Any ideas on where to look for one?

My own hunting rifle is a Savage .243 and of the 7 deer taken by my family over the past 2 years, five of them fell to her! I'm a big fan of Savage rifles. My husband, however, is a dedicated Marlin owner. Yep, I married him anyway. This year is my first year hunting with a muzzleloader. Hubby got me a T.C. Hawkins .50 cal for Christmas! I do love that man.

I would sure be grateful if anyone knew of a way to replace the whole bolt assembly on the .222 so it will be ready next season!

Thanks!

Welcome to the site. Try Numrich Gun Parts here http://www.e-gunparts.com/products_new.asp?CatID=4546

It looks like they may have an older style bolt, the 840 is the same as the Savage 340

lots of good gun shows in pa. go to every one you can get to, check all the parts guys and dig through every junk box and don't be afraid to ask even if you don't see anything likely looking. sometimes they have boxes of stuff that's not real popular so they leave it under the table uless someone asks. good luck and happy new year neighbor, bubba. forgot to mention: take the gun with you as there were some variations in these guns. know this from experience. again, good luck.

Good advice.  In doing so, check out Empire Gun's.  Craig took the business over when his father passed on.  He covers many PA shows and has a shop up in Central PA. in the area east of Shamokin Dam and near I-80.  He deals in gun parts.  Good guy to deal with.
