Need ideas...please.
« on: December 29, 2009, 07:03:13 PM »
I have an extra frame and I'm thinking I need another pistol.  I have two Encore rifles...30-06 AI and 6mm Rem.  I have one pistol in 308 Win.

I would like something that offers some versatility...hunting and target shooting.

So, what would you get?

Well, you got the middle of the spectrum fairly well covered....so...I'm thinking either something big bore like a 45-70...or...the other end...something in a 22 centerfire or even smaller.  I guess I really narrowed that down for ya..huh? ;D  Walt

i'd probably keep up the same theme.....
30-06, 6mm in rifle

.308.........and add the 6BR for the handgun! the 6BR is an awesome round and great in a short barrel. unreal accuracy possible.

Thanks guys.

I was thinking of some kind of rimfire, but those are so much more fun in a semi-auto.  The big boomer I considered was the 460 S&W Mag, but I can imagine that would be nothing but unmitigated pain.

I looked at the TCU, but the 6BR sounds interesting.  I would need to reasearch that one.  Although I also have a 7-30 Waters in a Contender pistol.

Does anyone know anything about the 17 Fireball?

Well it would seem to me you need a 22cal., 25cal., 6MMcal., 6.5cal., 6.5cal., 7mm. cal., etc. you get the idea, I'm sure.

Notice I listed 6.5cal. twice, I really like them. ;D

For a 6.5 I would go with the 260 Rem. or the 6.5X55 Swede. For a 7mm I would go for the 7mm-08. They would be MGM Shilen SS barrels also.

Hey Heavy, I guess my favorite would be my two 6.5JDJ's, followed closes by my 6.5X55S.M., but when I get around to working with my 6.5X284 Win all that may be out the door.

I have 6.5's in 13" 6.5TCU, 2-6.5JDJ 14" & 20", 15" 6.5X55S.M., 16" 6.5X284Win.

I would like someday to have a 6.5Whisper just to play with. I'm really considering the 6.5Creedmore. I would like a 260Rem., but with the S.M. why bother!

I bet the 6.5Whisper would be fun in the Tender.

Heavy, these are my opinions, and that only.

6.5TCU, accurate, fun, but(for me not enough for hunting deer)yes there are those that do and that's fine but its not for me!

6.5JDJ, very accurate, fun, kills way beyond its means, with the 20" Tender rifle I took a doe this year past 300yds., the 14" is capable of the same, just not in my hands.

6.5X55S.M., Not much I can say about this one. It's history speaks for itself. Its been around a long time.

6.5X284Win., I haven't shot this one much, but it is a proven round.

If I could have but one it would no doubt be the 6.5JDJ weather it be for target or hunting. Not to say its better than any other 6.5, I just like it. But then I haven't met a 6.5 I didn't like.

Chuck, the advantage of the BR case is the excellent brass that is available. Check out 6mmBR.com for lots of information. I havent done it but I understand folks reload for the 6BR on a progressive press! You might also consider the 22BR, a very easy wildcat to make and supremely accurate. Mine is on a 700 and is a Tight Neck and I believe I am running a 69 gr SMK at 3200 fps. Dont hold me to that, as that is just off the top of my head.
