Deep South Solves Healthcare Crisis...one way to skin a cat

Deep South calls in Iran to cure its health blues
In ground-breaking project, one of America’s poorest communities is turning to the Middle East to try to resolve its crisis

Pryor’s son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Lizzie, who live with her, are both out of work and their only daughter died from her heart condition at the age of 26. With no local clinics or transport, they go to the hospital’s accident and emergency department if they need a doctor.

The idea of looking for solutions in Iran emerged when James Miller, a consultant based in Mississippi, was called in to advise a rural hospital in financial difficulty. He was shocked to find that the state had the third highest medical expenditure per capita, but came last in terms of outcome.

Miller, managing director of Oxford International Development Group, remembered a conference in Europe where Iranian officials had explained how their country had revolutionised its healthcare system.

It will prove to be nothing more than a way to set up more muzlim sleeper cells and convert more blacks to islam in souther MS. No one's health will improve but lots more of your beloved muzlims will be taught the hatred they all learn so early in life.

I don't have any problem with 99% of the Muslims I've known and I've known a LOT of Muslims from West Africa, across North Africa, through the Middle East, and into Central Asia.  I am not Jewish, Christian, or Muslim and they all knew that I am an "infidel."  I've shot rifles with them and ridden horses with them, they've had plenty of opportunity to kill me and nobody would ever know who did it, assuming anybody even found my body. I'm still very much alive after 40+ years of world travel and much of it among Muslims.

My family and I have been the beneficiaries of socialized medicine in 11 different countries. Some of it was bad but most of it was excellent.  In fact, I think among the best medical care I've ever had anywhere was after I took a fall mountain climbing in the Himalayas [I had a Russian doctor who was living and practicing in Kyrgyzstan]. I do have a fairly good sense of quality of care because: 1) I do high risk outdoor activities and have seen the inside of ERs all over the world, among other injuries, I've broken 32 bones from a fractured skull down to some foot bones  ;D ; and, 2) I come from a family full of docs and we've talked about the care we've received. In some countries, such as France and many of the Central Asian countries, doctors still make house calls and they get to your home [or hotel] very quickly. My brother, who is a doctor and medical school professor, sometimes goes to Sweden for medical care depending on what he needs.

There is a big world out there and it isn't what most Americans perceive it to be.  ;D

Interesting Black Eagle, I for one would be interested in hearing some of your world view based on your travels.  :) Things are seldom as we preceive them in another culture. We just really don't know or understand until we actually experience life in those places.

I grew up in the deep south, so I understand where GB is comming from. But I've lived in enough other cultures to know The old southern culture has it's faults as well, even if it is home. Interesting thing......... Life.  ;D

Good post BlackEagle. You're at 39 posts, we expect alot more from you  ;)
You, with your experiences, can add alot to these conversations. Most of us, me included, focus on the negatives out there.
I will always contend that the US is the best country ever-- filled with the best people/citizens ever. It's always good to get firsthand info and reports from areas that 99% will never see or experience.  We all need to see the "bigger picture" in all our thinking. We may still come to the same conclusion and opinion, but atleast it will be well thought out

As far as bringing Iranians/muslims in to "help" the south, I still have to agree with GB. I have no trust whatsoever for them

I feel sorry for the Iranians that want out of the current regieme, but not sorry enough to want them employed or consulted on anything American. We need to stop the political correctness and protect America.

I did quite a bit of traveling myself, as a member of the U.S. Marines. The people I came into contact with were the average people of what ever area.
No where did they live any where near as well as we do!
It sounds like Black Eagle is like a lot of well off Americans, they travel all over, but only see and associate with the top ten percent of the people. They think the rest of the world is just like the rich little world they live in.
They need to travel in the circles I moved in. They would have a completely different out look.

We have been lucky and we are quite well to do. However, I have spent a lot of time in the world's underbelly. I grew up on the Pine Ridge Rez, usually considered the poorest place in America.  My wife and I have stayed in the best hotels in Europe but not often. We much prefer the poorer places with real people. We've spent a lot of time with poor Cossacks in the Russian Steppes.  I really do like them. They are among the toughest people I've ever known and some of the best horsemen. [I am a horse nut and have been since I was a child.] We have traveled the old Silk Road and done much of it on horseback. [My son and his wife did almost 1000 miles of it on camels.] They taught me to lop the heads off straw dummies with a sword from the back of a horse at a full gallop. We have crossed Africa from West to East and stayed in a number of grass hut villages with the natives. I've hiked, climbed and ridden horses through a huge portion of the Himalayas and one of my favorite places in the world is one of the poorest -- the Tien Shien spur of the Himalayas in Kyrgyzstan. [My son married one of the world's most beautiful women in Kyrgyzstan. Her father had been a KGB agent during the days of the Soviet Union and they were one of the few families who were not poor.] On two occasions, I have seen the elusive snow leopard in Kyrgyzstan. Most of the "Stan" countries that we favor are very poor -- Uzbekistan, etc. We've been all through China [8 times] and western China through Tibet is stunningly beautiful. Last fall we stayed in a hotel in Tibet for a wekk where the warmest it ever got, INSIDE THE HOTEL, was 40 degrees F.  ;D We've run whitewater in Central and South America and there aren't any "luxury" accomodations anywhere near the best white water. Last summer we took the kids and our grandson into some of the roughest jungles and villages in the Dominican Republic for several days so we could kayak those jungle rivers with the snakes and the crocs.

In my family, we are all adrenaline junkies, including my 5 year old grandson. [Our grandson is already on a quest for the toughest roller coaster in the world.] We were in a hotel in Moscow when it was bombed by terrorists, we were in a hotel in Bishkek that was attacked by terrorists, and my little sister was in a hotel in Indonesia when it was completely destroyed by a terrorist bomb [she escaped in tact]. I've seen people die of disease and starvation in Africa.

We don't go to the tourist places very often. They tend to be dull and lifeless.  My wife of more that 40 years is now well known to the western China wildlife officials as one of the best Panda Bear trackers they have ever found.  ;D I love the USA but I also love the rest of the world. It's full of real men and women from the Cossacks, to the Pashtun warriors, to the Mongols, to the 40 tribes of Manas, etc. Some day, I am going to ride a horse over the Khyber Pass from Afghanistan to Pakistan although, at the moment, my wife draws the line there.  ;D

Interesting thread
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

the article addresses the results of the Iranian healthcare but I did not see any details on how it is paid for and if it is financially viable in the US.

The problem with US healthcare isn't the care itself, it is the $$$$.

People living with a meaning to their lives?...maybe Japan...maybe Tibetans.

There are many places in the world where people seem to be much happier than they are here and Tibet, even under Chinese rule, is one of them. We have been imbued with the "protestant work ethic" and we don't play nearly as much as people in some other cultures. We smile less and we spend far too much time being angry at somebody, or the government, or whatever. This always catches me off-guard when we return from a long trip abroad. And, speaking of that, I think I'm gonna' go saddle up my horse, grab a rifle, and go up into the mountains for a couple hours to "line out my karma."   ;D
