« on: December 30, 2009, 02:13:20 PM »
has anyone bought one of the refurbed bsa's from natchez, the 4x12x40?  $35 seems like a good deal or is it not even worth that?   i wil be using it on a 204 or 223.

If an elcheapo scope was junk the first time out of the factory why would ya think it will be better the next time? Bottom line nope I've not tried them and wouldn't if Natchez paid me the $35. Wasting money on such cheap crap is not a wise investment. Better to buy good stuff to begin with than having to replace crap when it fails and fail it will.

I long ago learned the folly of trying to save money by buying cheap optics. Folks can either learn from personal experience which is the hard way or can take the advice of folks who've made the mistakes in life already and avoid having to repeat them.

I put a 6x24 on a heavy barrel .22 last year.  So far it works OK for me just punching paper.  It might be a piece of junk, but with the target turrets and sun shield, it sure looks impressive ::)  I musta got screwed though, because i paid $79, NIB.  Oh well...

I have two bsa's and they work great.  Bright and clear.  They don't fog and I snipe chipmunks with a 4-12 mildot.  I'd rather have a nikon but they work fine.

35 dollars seems like a good deal to me.  But I think 45 would be better.

Wait, I thought Natchez was paying you to take it off thier hands.  In that case I am will Bill.  No way in hell would I pay for one.

Put some of these cheapo scopes on a rifle that has some recoil, say a .300 Weatherby, and before you shoot 100 rounds it will come apart inside. Usually when you zoom the power from low to high, a shift in bullet impact will result, adjustments will not be accurate or jump all over the target, etc.

I have to agree with Graybeard, Good shooting= Good rifle, good ammo, good optics.

Hickok,
I have a BSA that has shot several hundred rounds on a 30-06 and then was placed on a .50 mz loader.  No problems.

LOL! I laughed so hard when I saw this post! There are 2 very negative things about that scope: 1) "refurbished" and 2) BSA, and not necessarily in that order! LOL

BSA=Better Select Another

I've had two, both taken in trades. One was new in the box and inoperable at that stage. The other had a lens fall out after a couple shots atop a hard-kicking .223.

amen to that. A 35 dollar scope relates to about a 1000 dollar brand new truck. Any bets on the reliablility of either.

I have had no good luck at all with anything I have ever bought that was labeled "refurbished".

I think I have come up with a scope that would me worse than a BSA scope....

That would be a refurbished BSA scope.
