Sounds Like Life To Me!

I think we can all appreciate the wisdom and honesty of the words of this song.  It is a newer country singer, but a great song.

Sounds like a typical, new age rural song, sung by a mediocre singer.
I'm showing my age I know but, he ain't no G. Jones or M Haggard, and the song don't measure up to Mama Tried, or He Stopped Lovin Her Today. I guess I'm not able to get past the un-country melody, or the "UGH" voice, to hear the message.

Sorry I sound like an old fogey, but all these new "COUNTRY" songs, sound alike to me.
My Grandson tells me I'm just not hip, and I guess he's right! ;D

I has to agree with ya , he ain’t no country singer, matter of fact he should be arrested for imitating a country singer……………I’d bet ET, Bill Walker, Hank Thompson, Hank Snow Lefty and Patsy are rolling over in their graves with the though this clown is being book as country.

Like Barbara says, "I was Country When Country Wasn't Cool."  *If there ain't a fiddle, a steel and a little twang in their voice it just ain't country to me. ::) ::)

Darryl Worley has been around for a while now and has some good songs. "Have you forgotten" is one of my favorites from him. ;)

To you "old" guys who are knocking him... try turning your radio from AM to FM and listening to something from this century. :-\  Most of the "classic country" singers you're bragging about are more famous for being drunks or dying too young.

Ouch, Spanky.  Ole George Jones was a drunk alright.  I've heard his name, and probably heard his music, I just don't pay attention any more.  Meaning I hear it, but am not paying attention.  Too many other things on my mind.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I agree with you Sourdough. I probably have every record album Hank Snow and Marty Robbins ever made. Most of the younger guys on here were not even around when real country was. I won't try to explain to you younger folks what a record is. ;D

I seem to remember a story about George's wife taking his car keys (fed up with his drinking) so he rode his riding mower down to the bar...He found that his wallet was also missing so he made a couple stops along the way to mow yards to get some cash  before continuing on.  ;D ;D

I like the new artists as well as the old.

Different strokes for different folks, chevy vs ford, rather right letters instead of posting on the new fang dangled internet, apples are better than oranges, etc! etc! etc!. I say it would be a awful dull world to listen to one singer, actor , person. I worked with a guy that ate the same packed lunch, every item in it, every day for the 10 1/2 years I worked with him and those there before me said 35+ yrs before that. Man talk of narrow minded, so be it. Life is to boring with out giving a look at every thing and trying things. The lady likes the song and wanted to share with other folks, it seems alot of folks have to critique everything as is their right. Thank you Heather and Matt for sharing the song,if I dont like hearing something a turn off the volume or leave the discussion.  Boon    PS, I am sure glad people broaden their horizons or we would still be living in caves.

fellas ,i love songs about life ..heather unde5rstands this song at her age.. if i had been this wise at her age ..well like garths song the dance ida probably changed something..but it would have been easier on everybody if id grasp the truths in this song..but i wasn t even close to this type maturity when i was her age..she gets it now..imagine where she may be on  lifes learning journey when she gets to my age..
its gonna save her a lot of kicking trees an stuff when something in her life fails ,dies or just lets her down..
some of you know she talked of the possibility of being real sick ,,in one of her post..mabe god was teaching her wisdom with this illness.mabe ..jmo..
but the song carries a message of wisdom that many never really learn..im not too familar with the singer ,,
but his rendition of the song was more than just adequate..he made me feel it..george could do that to..
an hank an many others..i lived in nashville for a while..down close to printers alley..was a waiter an cook ,,for 12 hrs a day for a dollar an hr..
some on music row ,,said it wasn t hanks pretty voice that made everyone likem...there has been better according to the music players an such....it was his ability to make others feel what he felt inside..jmo slim
ps.. what mike said is so true..read his short comment..[ mike i love the way you jumped to heathers defence,,that s a man doing a mans job..]fellas try to grasp it.. then if you do ..go back an listen again to the song..do your self a favor..apparently it ll be a tiny step in life for you.. that mabe has large ramification.. still to each his on ,,in his own way..to truth.have a blessed day..
im borrowing from william with that..but i like it.

I liked it. Good message in the song, sometimes we all have that feeling, no matter how much we do, things just never change, and when ya think your finally getting ahead, something pops up and sets back to square one. Thats life. gypsyman

Good song if you like country. Personally I would just as soon listen to a catfight as most country music. To each his own. Got a bunch of albums in the closet and a bunch of cassettes from the dinosaur days of music. Quite a few of them are country. They belong to my wife.  ;D

Very Good Message, their is nothing bad happening that drinking will make better.
as for the music +/- not into new country, to me "rocking it up is exactly
what is wrong with country music.
It is either country or rock, can't be both IMO.

I like the song Okay.  But what they call "Country" music today we called "Pop Rock" back in my day.  Don't get me wrong I like a lot of it and listen to a good deal of it but it's just not what I consider real country music.

"Sounds like life to me" also!! Worley has some good stuff.  "Have you forgotten" is one and yes , most have!!!

Now i'm gonna "Hank Snow", Tell me if you know what that means!

I guess I like this type of country music, because to me, it's the closest to what I consider the rock and roll I listened to 30 years ago. I'm not sure what rock is today, but sure doesn't sound like the Bob Seger or Beach boy music I use to listen to. gypsyman

OK, the lyrics are not bad, they do have the sound of a “Country Song” but the music seems like 50-60s style light rock.  This is why I keep a bundle of CDs in my truck..........gota have something to listen to.

Got a call last night from an old friend’s wife
Said I hate to bother you
Johnny Ray fell off the wagon
He’s been gone all afternoon
I know my buddy so I drove to Skully’s
And found him at the bar
I say hey man, what’s going on
He said I don’t know where to start
Sarah’s old car’s about to fall apart
And the washer quit last week
We had to put momma in the nursing home
And the baby’s cutting teeth
I didn’t get much work this week
And I got bills to pay
I said I know this ain’t what you wanna hear
But it’s what I’m gonna say
Sounds like life to me it ain’t no fantasy
It’s just a common case of everyday reality
Man I know it’s tough but you gotta suck it up
To hear you talk you’re caught up in some tragedy
It sounds like life to me
Well his face turned red and he shook his head
He said you don’t understand
Three kids and a wife depend on me
And I’m just one man
To top it off I just found out
That Sarah’s 2 months late
I said hey bartender set us up a round
We need to celebrate
Sounds like life to me plain old destiny
Yeah the only thing for certain is uncertainty
You gotta hold on tight just enjoy the ride
Get used to all this unpredictability
Sounds like life
Man I know its tough but you gotta suck it up
To hear you talk you’re caught up in some tragedy
Sounds like life to me

These are the kinds of country songs that I really like. Where real life is talked about and decent values are extolled.

Ain't nuttin about pick up trucks, railroads, prison or rainy nights in it so it can't be a country song.

While the words ring true it's more rock than country to an old fart like me. I don't get the current need for loud music and fast pace, that's rock not country. I've given up on listening to music anymore as none of it meets my idea of country anymore.

Expand your horizons guys!  Just because you like country doesn't mean you can't like other stuff as well.  I still pat my foot to "Born to be Wild', and I like Pavrotti as well.  I like a little of everything if it's well done.  I just can't stand it if it's off key, expecially flat.

Good tune, Heather....

Well I for one think it is a damn good song and if the rest of you would listen to the words of the song rather than trying to impose your idea of country music you might understand. Everyone has to be a critic of something...

Matt

Matt! I sucked it up, and listened to the words of the song, and Heather is right! The message is a good one.
I'm with Graybeard! I can't relate to the new sound as country, so I either listen to classic country stations, or don't listen at all. You will understand this in your senior day's. Your kids will play a tune on their.....What ever they play them on, in 2020, and it will make you sick, to hear their version of country music. "TRUST ME" It will happen ;)

Hmmm....if those are the only criteria for "Country" then this song qualifies...lol...just listen to the beginning....it is clearly about getting drunk.  ;)
